A large puddle of tar encroached on the sidewalk and natural gas appeared to rise from the street of the Miracle Mile in Los Angeles Friday.
CBSLAs Brittany Hopper was standing near the puddle located across the street from The La Brea Tar Pits and Museum, a national natural landmark where tar has been seeping up from the ground for tens of thousands of years.
But the tourists like Rick Stahl from the Pacific Northwest had one more story to tell when he gets back home.
Were from Seattle, Stahl said, and you dont see this oozing out of the streets. Its amazing.
You see a little bit of tar oozing up between the pavement, Kogan says, all over the neighborhood. Thats not unusual but this seems to be flow tar. Ive never seen this before.
Not to mention the constant hissing sound coming from the ground its methane.

well, ok. anything that eats LA will be doing America a big favor
This could be a seismic activity warning..
I took my son there two years ago. I parked my rental right there were the video shows it bubbling up.
I just showed it to my son, I asked him if he remembered parking there. He said he did, and the place stunk like farts. Yup, methane!
(-:
They’ll just throw tax dollars at it and call it good.
That may be a reference to an aircraft carrier catapult launch.
I'm thinking of retiring in Idaho Falls just so that if the big one goes my troubles will be over almost instantly.
Far, far better than the Hollywood Walk with the stars in the sidewalk.
Oddly enough, I can think of several “stars” who would
look a lot better embedded in tar.
The Earth hates Democrats...
Methane is odorless. Its the other stuff you smell. Probably hydrogen sulfide or one of the mercaptans.
up fum the ground come a bubblin’ crude. oil that is. texas tea.
Nature is just filling in the potholes.
Well as Drew Carey would say, “Cleveland Rocks Cleveland Rocks!”
It’s happened before!

Stuck helplessly in the tar and headed for extinction is an entire generation of celebrity journalists. At night you can hear them howling, “Collusion! Obstruction! Orange Man bad!”
Always wondered how animals could get stuck but then visited and saw that it was to all appearances just another pond/lake. Was a little disappointed. Only tar was some bubbling up above the waterline.
My mother loved cats; and I grew up with 3 rowdy brothers. I have seen cats shot in the a$$ with spit wads, rubber bands, ETC. They do run like the wind, but I am not sure they ran any faster than my brothers did from my mother when they were caught in the act.
Ha! I’ll remember that the next time I’m accused of breaking...
“Wasn’t me, methane is odorless!!!
That was the particularly interesting thing to me. Theyd get stuck in just 3 or 4 inches of tar. If you think of it though it makes sense. Perhaps a person might be able to extricate himself, but if it is an animal that get one or two paws or hooves stuck, pull out but then pressing down on the other and in and in. I imagine it wouldnt take long to get worn out and once the animal lays down, its all over
You know, when Earth was still in her INFANCY, a mere 200 Million years ago, tar underfoot was an every day occurrence...and we LIKED it!
