Texas border town feels stress of Trump tariff threat against Mexico
NBC ^ | 06-10-19 | Phil McCausland

LAREDO, Texas — The edges of this small border city bustle with activity as construction vehicles clear flat expanses of land for massive warehouses, and semi-trucks moving American and Mexican goods appear to cover every inch of roadway. To James Gonzalez, 33, the sterile, boxy buildings and traffic congestion only a few miles from the five bridges that connect the U.S. to Mexico represent financial success and future business opportunities. The city's fortunes, based entirely on trade between the two countries, is forever tied to the United States’ kinship with or animus for its southern neighbor. The closeness of that relationship can sometimes make the restrictive lines of the national border feel blurry, but with the Trump administration’s recent threats of a trade war, they have become increasingly stark.

I’ll bet this article was written thinking that the tariffs would be in place and they could stir up some screaming and crying to make President Trump (little girl’s voice)
“sorry he made the Mexicans and lefties cry.”

Boo Hoo.

There’s always someone who loses.

Tariffs are still good for America as a whole.

Laredo has one distinction different from the rest of Texas.
I has a 7th flag as opposed the six flags over Texas. For a
short period of time it was the Capital of the Republic of
the Rio Grande on January 17, 1840 until November 6, 1840.

Biased NBC is slow on the trigger with this sob story.

Published the day after Trump pulls any threat of tariffs (they were never initiated or in place) and Mexico agrees to get their illegal immigration act together.

This is a non-story.

Um, the tariff didn’t go into effect. More fake news.

Typical reply. This small area is more important than the rest of America.

So? How about sacrificing a bit for the good of America?

Hmm, they feel the stress over something that hasn’t happened yet. Much ado about nothing.

I’ll say the same thing to them that I’ve said after all the other cry-baby stories like this that I’ve seen: The good of the country is more important than some individual company making a little bit more profit by using cheap illegal labour.

*** Guess who buys jumex and bimbo products anyway?? ***

You do realize that if you buy Sara Lee, Earth Grains, Wonder Bread, Mrs Baird’s, Orowheat, Entemann’s, BallPark, Nature’s Harvest, Boboli, and a bunch of other “brands”, you are buying “Grupo Bimbo” owned products, don’t you?
