Movie was about on par with most of the recent XMen fair... Nothing fantastic, pretty meh... again, like most of the more recent XMEN movies..

Honestly, it hasn’t been marketed nearly enough or well...

IF you weren’t around in the 90s when the Dark Phoenix storyline originally was written, you probably would have no idea what it was...

They shoved it into Xmen 3... terribly.. it should have been an entire movie of its own back then...

I

The comic book original was actually late 70's/early 80's. In order to do such a long story arc justice, it should have ideally been a miniseries. I have not cared much for the X-Men films of late either. Sansa Stark does not strike me as a good choice for Jean Grey.

90s?
1970s and 1980s.

Supposedly one of the reasons they did so many reshoots was because the original ending was too similar to a couple of the Marvel Studio movies. Also, at some point during production, it must have become clear that Fox was selling the property to Disney and the characters would be taken over by Marvel Studios. Seems like that might have dampened enthusiasm for it.

I expect the X-Universe will be rebooted again, this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where they will be integrated with the rest of the Marvel cast. Given how Fox let the property fizzle out, I don’t imagine Marvel will make the new interpretation anytime soon. In the same deal Disney acquired rights to the Fantastic Four. Rumor has it tentative plans are to introduce the FF sometime in 2022.

And you have to believe that Marvel will adapt the Secret Wars saga. It can be constructed similarly to the Infinity Saga...20 movies leading up to an Endgame-like conclusion. And Secret Wars wouldn’t be Secret Wars without the X-Men.

There is one more Fox X-movie yet to be released: The New Mutants. It was finished quite a while ago, and no one seems to know why it hasn’t been released. I’m guessing the reason for the delay is that it’s just not very good.

I'll see it (on DVR not theaters) only to see how true it is to the comic book story arc.

Gone back and read all the xmen up into the mid 90s, and Dark Phoenix is the best story by far. Interested to see how they translated it on the big screen. I am happy to know we lose a certain character, couldn’t stand the character anymore.
