“Lobster rolls are a total ripoff.”
Maine is a ripoff, plus they have that Northeastern attitude towards visitors.
In my case, I went there decades ago and managed to find some cheap lobster, and cooked it. That was fine. Then I went much more recently...everything lobster-related was way overpriced, much more than it costs me in Texas. I finally did find one place willing to cook and then sell me lobster at a decent price. We asked where to eat it, he pointed to some picnic tables - that was ok, weather was good. Then my wife asked about a bathroom, and he pointed to the trees behind the tables - that didn’t go over quite as well with the wife. No plans to return to that stuck-up place.
We white trash in the Mississippi delta used to could feast on mud bugs (CRAWfish, never CRAYfish).
We could fill buckets from roadside ditches, or set out traps. Free, or buy a 50 lb sackful for $2 from a local trapper.
Then they became a “Delta Delicacy” and cooks in Louisiana diners got uppity & started calling themselves “chefs.”
Now we got “crayfish farms”.
A restaurant platter, unshelled $20.
Shelled & frozen in supermarket, $9 lb.
