Chernobyl, site of the world's deadliest nuclear accident, is now a surprisingly popular tourist destination.
Ukrainian officials opened the area to tourists nearly a decade ago, declaring that visits were safe, though tours would be strictly regulated.
When the Chernobyl reactor exploded, it released deadly levels of radiation, but radioactive fallout wasn't distributed evenly across the surrounding area, due to weather conditions and changing winds. I don’t agree with this assessment of the HBO series, probably the single most prominent theme of the series was the evil incompetence of the Soviet system and socialism...how that system was uncaring for the fate of its own people and how it shrouded the truth of the situation from all except the Central Committee.
It was a condemnation of socialism that was not sugar-coated in any way, and any knowledgeable and free-thinking person in this country who saw it could not miss the (probably unintentional) similarity to Leftist and Democrat propaganda and action (such as the Mueller KGB-like prosecutorial and investigative tactics) that we are seeing in America since Trump upset their plans.
I believe Chernobyl was a foreshadow of what is coming to the Earth, like the Book of Revelation says. However, the lack of protracted disaster is why Anthropogenic Global Warming is a fable. Michael Crichton quit believing in AGW. The Earth is very resilient.

I’ve seen much of that website and the pictures are surreal and depressing.
Millenials dont have the attention span to watch a single hour of serious drama, let alone a six episode mini-series.

If you have a little clue how to operate in such an environment it is pretty much safe. You would need a quality dozimeter and to follow some rules to stay OK.
The general idea is to keep on paved surfaces which are washed by rain regularly. Vegetation is actually how the remnants of fuel are brought from the ground every season so it is better to avoid it. It that sense winter is the best time. Metal stuff, still water are things to keep away. There is actually a map available with safe and dangerous parts pictured.
I think the best idea at this point is to keep out of buildings. These weren’t maintained for 33 years and it would be a shame if some would collapse on top of you.
There are idiot youtubers eating mushrooms and berries there or swimming in a pond and one German blogger who went to the abandoned hospital and threw firefighters’ gear around basement. That is not responsible behavior which spells serious health risks and the latter doesn’t even post anymore. Don’t do this crazy stuff and it would be no worse than a chest x-ray.

Exactly how much radiation is there and where is it concentrated.
I would be less concerned about touching things and more concerned about breathing dust kicked up by people and the wind.
I would recommend masks which no one seems to be wearing.
Depressing on how that family has to live. Doesn’t look like they even had electricity......
Rubber gloves, disposable medical ‘booties’, and disposable paper body suits would be nice too.
That is why you need a counter and I told you general hints to avoid dangerous places. When it comes to the city of Pripyat which is the most popular destination maybe 90% of territory is safe.
