University of Alabama rejects $26M gift after abortion flap

The University of Alabama gave back a philanthropist’s $26.5 million donation and took his name off the law school Friday, a week after he called on students to boycott the institution over the state’s new abortion ban.

Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr., a 70-year-old Florida real estate investor, said he has no doubt the board of trustees acted in response to his remarks, and he complained that the state of Alabama is only reinforcing its reputation as “the land of the backward,” full of “hicks.”

University officials emphatically denied the decision had anything to do with Culverhouse’s stand on the abortion law and said it was prompted instead by his attempts to dictate how the money should be spent. They did not elaborate.

Culverhouse’s pledge, announced in September, was the biggest contribution ever made to the university. In return, the law school was renamed the Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr. School of Law.

Within minutes of the trustees’ vote, a maintenance crew had removed his name and the university had wired him a $21.5 million refund of the money he had already given the university toward fulfilling his pledge. …

It is likely Culverhouse was making demands on the university after the donation, such as hiring and firing. They may have been looking for a way out.

The man is a scumbag. All he did was be born to wealthy parents. He is not worthy of having the law school or anything named after him.

He’s now exposed this parents to be immoral too.

Alabama Specialty---Apricot Cream Biscuits

Melt-in-your-mouth served warm, biscuits with a hint of orange. Bisquick can offer homemade taste.

Apricot Cream Biscuits / makes a dozen

Ing 3 cups biscuit/baking mix 2 tsp orange zest cup heavy whipping cream 1/4 cup apricot preserves 2 tb cream cheese, softened 2 tsp sugar

Directions---combine baking mix and orange zest. Stir in cream just til moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8-10 times. Roll out to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter.

Place 2 in. apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Using the end of a wooden spoon handle, make a 1-1/4-in.-wide and 1/4-in.-deep indentation in the center of each biscuit. Add tsp Topping. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake golden 400° 10-15 min. Serve warm.

TOPPING beat/blend apricot preserves and cream cheese.

The University of Alabama’s School of Business is named after Hugh Culverhouse, Sr. Yes, that is his dad.This nitwit didn’t even attend Alabama. He is a graduate of the University of Florida.

Dad went to Bama and made a lot of money. Son went to a party school, because he could.

One of the best courses I ever took was a quality control course taught at a computer manufacturing plant. They used Juran’s Handbook For Quality Control as the textbook.

Onsite learning blew away every college lab I ever had.
Combine that with online libraries and teleconferencing and all those moldering central building campuses may be quaint and atmospheric...but they are still an inefficient money sink.

That beats our big state university by about 24 years, Pennsylvania State University founded in 1855. Come to think of it, Alabama beats PSU in most everything. I still remember that beating you put on us in Sugarbowl after the ‘79 season. Spoiled our attempt at an undefeated season in ‘82 as well. The Bear owned Paterno.
