I had two employees from Scotland.

Jane was from Edinburgh, Angela was

Their accents were as unalike as
you could get and still speak the
same language. Jane’s accent was hot;
Angel’s was not.

A lilting Edinburgh accent is a delight. A cute little blonde tour guide at the Glen Livet distillery once nearly made me fall in love. The Scots accent and dialect from Glasgow is unintelligible to most English speakers. The TV comedy Rab C. Nesbitt is an excellent example. It's gut bustingly funny, but should have English subtitles.

I think the motive was robbery, and that “asking to get a kiss” was to put the women on the defensive & get close.

Since the thugs were demanding the women kiss, it’s logical to assume they had not been doing so. And since thugs were sitting behind the women, an in-your-face-display would require some serious contortions.
