The US Military Academy at West Point has identified the cadet who was killed in Thursday's vehicle accident as 22-year-old Christopher J. Morgan of West Orange, New Jersey.

Morgan "died due to injuries sustained from a military vehicle accident at a training area," the academy announced Friday.

Nineteen other cadets and two soldiers were injured in Thursday's rollover accident, the academy said.

West Point spokesperson Lt. Col. Christopher Ophardt said Thursday the cadets were in a light medium tactical vehicle and were on their way to a land navigation course where they were going to do a map reading exercise.

The cadets were from the class of 2020, the spokesperson said.

There is more to being in the military than wearing a nice uniform. God bless you brother. Rest in peace and may God give your family strength and courage to face these terrible days.

Prayers up. So sad, and not even as high risk as going to the firing range.

Military training is inherently dangerous. Military vehicles do NOT handle the same as cars.

I remember a training exercise that didn't go well. While I was fuming upon our return to the motor pool, my platoon sergeant (who did a tour in Vietnam) pulled me to the side and said, "LT, just remember that everyone came back alive."

It certainly changed my perspective.

Prayers for all of those involved in this tragedy.

This can be the other side of the maxim, “Train harder than you fight!” and its variants. These were rising seniors involved and that year is both the best and most responsible year at any of the academies.

God bless all who were hurt and for their friends and families!

i hate this thought, but, somebody giving the cadets a little rough ride for fun turned out bad maybe?

Prayers up, RIP
