I read 118 million profit.
“Solo” was okay. I finally saw it and I found it entertaining, not great, but not that bad.
Ron Howard is on my list of people to no longer support.
Movies don't do that sort of accounting. It used to be that a movie had to make double its budget to be considered a break-even" movie (which Solo did not do), but nowadays it needs to make even more. When Does a Movie Break Even at the Box Office?
Russia! Russia! Russia!
Maybe it just sucked Ron. Ever think of that?
I don’t understand anything other than expenses vs income.
IIRC, that budget is not taking marketing and advertising costs into account.
I did not think it was that bad of a movie. I do see the Last Jedi backlash though.
Ok, not seen Last Jedi, but like you I enjoyed Solo.
Agreed, it was okay... the stupid SJW nonsense of Kennedy has harmed the franchise... but what’s really killed the franchise, is they want to make Star Wars shades of grey... and that’s just NOT what Star Wars is...
Good and Evil are clearly defined, there are no shades of grey... forcing it into the storyline turns off the fan base more than anything else...
The Last Jedi was a TERRIBLE movie.... Solo was an OKAY movie... it really would have done better if Last Jedi hadn’t been SO BAD! Could Solo have been better? Yes... it definitely didn’t need the implied Lando is into robots crap... that was stupid... and it didn’t need some “feminist” droid... that was beyond stupid.... but the overall movie was okay.... as I said could have been better.. but not bad.
SOLO suffered from Last Jedi being so bad....
Kennedy needs GONE.... the fact Disney hasn’t tossed her aside tells you all you need to know about Disney/Lucasfilms today
Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back was without question the BEST SW film of all time....
JEDI was BAD... the prequels were unbearable... The problem with the prequels was Lucas, should have hired a writer... you can see what he was trying to do with them, but it just doesn’t work... His dialogue was TERRIBLE, and the guy he had playing Anakin was stiff as a board... there was no chemistry at all between him and Padme. However less than great acting can be said of all the first Star Wars actors/actresses as well... but the films worked.
Anyway I think if Lucas had kept his EGO in check and hired the writing out, particularly the dialogue the prequels would have faired better... there were interesting stories in there, they just failed in execution.
That's the Disney way...
the 275M budget was just production costs, doesn’t include marketing and other expenses... They didn’t lose money, but for the amount of money shelled out, which was probably all said and done, $350-$375MM at least to only gross 393MM, that’s an abysmal return on investment.
Would you buy something for $100 that you could sell for for $105-$111? That’s basically where this movie did financially... at BEST.
Saw it a few weeks ago and my response was “meh”. Just not a great movie. Sorry, Ron.
Boo hoo.
LOL. Sounds worse than the holiday special.
That was such a good show to watch all those years.. with Barney..
Andy lost me when he came out pushing obama’s obamacare. He was old and should have kept quiet with politics.. he just ruined all those years when he came out an obama backer. Ya gotta have a piece loose to like/approve of obama.
Howard is hollywood all the way.. too good for ordinary people.
I heard the Varney & Co. gang talking today about the miniseries (HBO) Chernobyl. They said that it was the highest rated mini-series that HBO had ever done. Now, this is mini-series, not series.
Hubby and I and our daughter watched this and it was engrossing. The last episode is great as it lays out exactly what happened at Chernobyl. Riveting stuff. Jared Harris was amazing.
It wasn’t because Lando was bicurious or anything like that.
Apollo 13 is where he peaked. Great movie.
Man did they ruin a gold mine.
Now it is just remake and sequel city out there.
Leia: “I love you”
Han: “I know”
Doesn’t get more alpha than that.
Not quite 2 years ago, Hubby and I got a puppy. He is a "apricot" colored toy; however, what I didn't know is that apricot colored poodles tend to change color, and, at the moment, he is a light reddish-tan. Anyway, when he was a pup, I was having a hard time picking a name for him. So, one day when I was trying to figure out a name, I looked at him, with the brownish fur and big, big dark brown eyes and I thought, he looks like an Ewok.
So, I looked up the Return of the Jedi for the cast list; and, I found that the first Ewok Princess Leia runs into actually had a name. It was Wicket.
We now own a toy poodle named Wicket, and it really fits him perfectly. Although, I have had to explain the origin of that name several times. I am in my mid-60's and I am explaining the Star Wars connection.
