The answer: Polishing their résumé.
The question: How will a member of the Jeopardy! production team soon be spending their time?
Jeopardy! executive producer Harry Friedman said Tuesday that he thinks he knows whos responsible for leaking the ending of James Holzhauers final episode, and that very, very, very appropriate action will be taken.
We think we know where and who and how, Friedman told the Washington Post, as he recounted the moment he learned on Sunday that a clip showing Holzhauers defeat in Mondays episode was going viral.

He bet very low on final jeopardy....something he never did before...maybe he was just tired of the game.
I believe he has highly functional Aspergers based upon some of his mannerisms. People with that have high knowledge retention (photographic memories) but problems with interaction. He answered some personal questions during the breaks very strange..
Just my opinion... I’m old, what do I know?
Good for him.
You’re exactly right. At that point he couldn’t control the outcome. He had to expect her to miss the field goal.
He knew she’s bet it all. He decided to bet the minimum needed to win to cover the outcome of her missing and the third place guy getting the right answer.
“He figured the odds and knew he was probably going to lose. So why not bet for $2k instead of $1k. I know a lot of people do not think like thatbut that is what hes trained himself to do.”
You always bet enough to be one dollar over what your opponent bets if betting everything. As an example, player one has 15,000 dollars going into final jeopardy. Player two has 10,000. The assumption by player one has to be player two will bet all 10,000. This means for player one to win, providing both have the correct answer is to bet 5,001 dollars.
He didn’t, which means either he was distracted, he decided he didn’t want to go on or was given a talk that he needs to lose tonight.
Lots of people would rather fantasize than actually understand that he made the perfect bet for the situation, and so did she. The only way for him to win against anybody who can do math was for her the have the wrong answer in FJ.
” executive producer Harry Friedman”
He was one of my co-line producers in a game show I also worked on CBS. He was an asshole then, and nothing’s changed. Hope he burns..
I agree. Occam's Razor.
To expand on the prior post to you, he bet enough to beat the third place guy, hoping the lady would miss the answer...thus making him the winner. Perfectly logical response.
My logic and reasoning tells me that not many saw or believed the leaks. You said the leak increased ratings. You have yet to prove it.
Media protects media. As a professional courtesy they don’t report spoilers and things of that nature. If they did it would be war and they would’ve told us who Luke Skywalker’s father was before the film came out. Though in the social media era I suppose some audience members may spill the beans online but is anyone really looking for that?
“The only way for him to win against anybody who can do math was for her the have the wrong answer in FJ.”
Exactly. It seems there are many who can’t do math but still feel the need to opine on Jeopardy wagering strategy.
Thanks, makes a lot of sense.
I guess I was surprised that he didn’t know everything...LOL
I agree. Occam's Razor.
Boost ratings for the one show, the one where James loses, when all of James' appearances have given the show its highest ratings ever, when if he won the ratings would have continued to be spectacular?
Occam's Razor? No.
Nonsense to all three.........He knew he couldn't out bid her on the final question so he took the second route and bid just enough to insure that he beat the third place guy in case she lost on her answer.........That was his only smart option.
“You said the leak increased ratings. You have yet to prove it.”
Jeopardy! ratings: James Holzhauers defeat most watched episode in 14 years
James did not seem to be at the top of his game. Maybe he just had a bad day. Maybe he wasn’t feeling well. If he had been at peak performance, he would have won again.
I watch Jeopardy 3-4 nights per week - almost always see the 2nd place person bet all or most of what they have.
It’s great there is a website to cover how to do it right - don’t think most contestants follow it though.
Yeah, I understand the episode got great ratings, but you either missed or chose to ignore my point.
“James was the one with the lower amount, therefore the example you gave is not relevant.”
My mistake. And he didn’t bet everything?
