Omni GLH (Goes Like Hell)
They did go like hell. So long as the turbo boost did not exceed design limits. Some of them did and the motors hand-grenaded. But they were fast little cars. I remember in the late ‘80’s when I lived in the rural suburbs there was a rich kid who lived nearby and a Shelby version. Sometimes we would encounter on the road and invariably it turned into a road race. I was driving a hotted up two liter Porsche 914 at the time and we were about equal since I had superior cornering and braking ability but he had me beat in acceleration.
I had one of those.
It did.
And then, two days after I bought the next car (and seriously considered running both), it had an engine fire on the way to work. I put the fire out and later, drove it home. Some plastic bit in the coolant system broke (probably because of the fire) so I had it hauled away.
