The Pentagon has told the White House to stop politicizing the military, amid a furor over a Trump administration order to have the Navy ship named for the late U.S. Sen. John McCain hidden from view during President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Japan.
A U.S. defense official said Patrick Shanahan, Trump’s acting defense chief, is also considering sending out formal guidance to military units in order to avoid similar problems in the future.
Shanahan confirmed details about a Navy email that said the White House military office wanted the USS John McCain kept “out of sight” when Trump was in Japan about a week ago. The internal Navy email came to light last week, triggering a storm of outrage. …

I’ve heard so many versions of this alleged incident that I don’t know what to believe, but I have a hard time believing that Trump gave any thought to covering up the name of the ship. I doubt he even knew it was there.
There are plenty of male gullible voters, and plenty of intelligent sophisticated female voters. Gullibility is a human trait, not limited to one sex. Please get over this idea that men are perfect, and women are lower than slugs.

I saw the President on TV somewhere on the White House grounds saying he knew nothing about the incident and did not order the ship moved.

I spent 32 years in the business and I can promise you the politics within the military is alive and well from promotions, positions, retirement deals, to staying within their security levels. It’s been going on since we became a country. Worrying about it now and calling the kettle black is a bit late.

No specific person represents the building as a whole, so that didn’t happen either.
The military falls under the direct command of the President of the United States, and ALL of its uses are by definition political.

Imagine being assigned to the USS Pervert. I suspect sailors , even queer ones, don’t boast about that.
I get so tired of shoddy reporting. The Pentagon and the White House did not say anything; they are buildings! A real reporter would let us know who said what but when they do that they can’t make things up so easy.
This reporter is stirring things. If someone at the White House said to “hide” the USS McCain- could it be some socialist was going to have it in the way for a backdrop for video and pictures of Trump? There is more to this story one way or the other but we will never know unless an actual reporter chooses to tell the real story.

We need a social experiment in the pentagon where we take all the higher ups , blind fold them, take them to a location undisclosed with no telephone or other communications capabilities to live in GP medium tents and eat viet nam era C rations. They can sleep in sleeping bags and use an entrenching tool for the toilet.Run them through this scenario for about 6 months. Oh yes, classify the operation ultra top secret so that any that manage to contact media can be shot at dawn.. oh yeah, no enlisted, just officers for the duration.
