Just days away, June 4th will be the 30th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989. With sharp trade disputes between the US and China, this year promises sharper public interest in the incident.
In preparation for the Anniversary, Twitter has shut down 32,000 accounts critical of the Chinese Communist Party, accounts originating both in and outside China.
Facebook is also said to have taken similar pre-June 4th action against 40,000 accounts. No explanation has been given.
Most accounts of the incident acknowledge hundreds of deaths in Tiananmen Square, but some experts claim the actual figure runs into thousands. At the height of the protests as many as one million citizens crowded the square and protesting spread to 400 cities.
The companies and executives who ordered the account purges are also in charge of the social media accounts of the readers of FreeRepublic in the USA and abroad.
Princeton University and the USs largest public pension plan are funding perfection of facial recognition in China, an important tool of enforcement by the Chinese authorities.
Spooling down the long Twitter thread shows a long but partial list of the accounts suddenly shut down.
If Silicon Valley is amenable to repression by Chinese dictators half a world away, why would they not be to that by American ones here at home..?
They were all Russian bots.
Facebook, twitter and Google are owned by the Chinese communist party via share holding.
Is it any wonder communism is seemingly growing in the US?
Never has such a big historical event fallen into the memory hole, like Tiananmen.

"Montenegro Click Farms", huh.
Do the Chinese actually officially admit that the massacre took place? I thought at one time they denied any such actions against their citizens even happened in the first place.
I’m surprised my Twitter account hasn’t been molested..been going after the snowflakes and anti_America commies for a while now...careful about the specific wording to make the point w/o hitting a trip point but haven’t been puling any punches.
What REALLY happened:
(posted earlier this morning by FReeper PIF; this excellent summary was so good I had to re-post it, hope you don’t mind PIF)
“Actually there is an official count of over 2300 dead. Unoffically the count is over 10,000.
The reason no one knows the real count is:
The mountain troops called in were largely uneducated and were told that they faced terrorists - they were given no other information;
Tiananmen Square at the time was surrounded by apartment buildings and a major thoroughfare;
There were local troops and their armored vehicles (APCs if you will) present, but the mountain troops were told they were traitors supporting the terrorists;
After the Tank Man was rounded up by the secret police and beaten to death, the shooting began;
When the order was given, the shooting was conducted using armor piercing rounds from both soldiers and armored vehicles - both automatic rifles (real assault weapons) and heavy weapons (.50 cal) were used on the terrorists;
The firing lasted 48 hours continuously;
All hospitals and aide stations were closed to civilians;
Besides the terrorists, other targets included people watching from balconies, reporters, buses and cars passing, as well as people walking home from work;
When the shooting stopped all the local troops were dead and their vehicles were on fire;
Tracked vehicles like tanks and tracked APCs were used to run over the bodies until only jelly remained;
Bulldozers were brought in to pile up the jellied bodies which were then set on fire;
The burned remains were then fire-hosed down the sewers.
There are or were videos of most of this as well as eye witness accounts.”
*snort*
twitter and google have been under the control of marxist dictators for some time now. They willingly filter results so they come out favorable to the left.
China should never been allowed to grow into what they have become. The USA should have severely dealt with them when they invaded Korea let alone have better supported Democratic forces earlier opposing Communism.
Dont be surprised if they block Trumps account leading into the 20 election in the interest of fairness. I hope they do because Trump will finally drop the hammer on them for their brazen bias for the left
Yes they do. It was a rebellion, put down appropriately. Few people notice that most of the carnage was in the streets of Beijing which lead to Tienanmen Square. The residents tried to blockade the troops and tanks from reaching the square.

This was submitted to Google for the 25th Tiananmen Anniversary.
Will we see something similar at Google.com on Tuesday?
My guess is NO, the same way they had NOTHING for celebrating Easter.
Horrible.
