Why are we trying to be like countries who don't have a 2nd Amendment?
What happened in the aftermath of the trajedy that occured in New Zealand only happened because they don't have a constition and they don't have a 2nd Amendment.

David Kopel wore an excellent book that suggests that a nation's opinions of gun control is rooted generally in their nation's history. My understanding is that New Zealand was basically born out of British settlers being fearful of French settlers declaring sovereignty first. The British settlers responded by pleading with England to declare British sovereignty first.
In other words, New Zealand's history isn't that of America's...it isn't one individualists striking out on their own to build a life for themselves and their family, even if it meant fighting to be free from European tyranny. On the contrary, NZ's forefathers PLEADED with the Crown to save them.
Thus, most in NZ were not raised in an individualist, American culture but were likely raised to see government as a savior, not an oppressor.

Exactly. Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are all directly descended from a culture that we fought a war to break from and start anew. And this circumstance is a perfect example of why the Founders purposely set up a cross-redundant and “inefficient” system of government...no doubt they had seen similar examples of drastic responses jammed through with no thought or consideration of the “subjects”.
