I feel like I think I remember feeling at 40 (even though the body ain’t as snappy and doesn’t have quite the same endurance).
Had a hip replacement 3 years ago and the rehab nurse said I was in good shape for 64 (presented as 50) and I didn’t need them to watch me do the exercises.
I need to top the few smokes I still have each day and lose about 12 pounds to get back to my “fighting” weight of 180 to actually be “insanely healthy for my age”.
Active all my life and started weight training at 15 and have run around the world and then some (hence the hip) to stave off the inevitable as long as possible.
The few sodas I have are usually associated with a junk food top at Mickey D’s or some other place...a Coke can taste good with a burger and fries...but I hardly eat most fast foods these days (but pizza will be my life-long weakness - hence the 12 pounds or so I want to lose...).
We try to eat fairly healthy and at least 2 meals a week are salads (Chef Salad style with chicken or tuna for some protein).
Some of my apparent well being may be genes (but family not noted for disease-free longevity - maybe got the right mixture from the contributors) but long-term and fairly constant exercise is probably the biggest factor...still do some strength training 3-4 days a week and instead of running, walk (have a treadmill) 2-4 miles a day as a specific exercise. Recently moved and sold the BowFlex and will pick up one of the total gyms Chuck Norris advertises before long to keep from having to go to the workout room in the condo complex.
Do some form of exercise every day and as you get used to it, build on it but don’t make yourself tired from it...moderation is the key to making it easier to keep doing it. Cut back on some of the junk and eat slower - I find that when i take my time over a meal, I end up feeling full with 1/2 - 2/3 of the intake I regularly ate in my younger - faster burning days.
If appropriate, tell someone you love them every day and acknowledge God a time or two every day....and avoid the bad parts of town at night....;-)

Wow. That’s a lot of great stuff and I dont feel like 40 now, at 51 :)

I will do what you mentioned as I always start off too hard in exercise routine and then get sick of it after a month!

As for the 12 pounds, I WISH TO GOD that is what I had to lose :)

I’d have to lose a small person to weight that :(

Avoided fast food like the plague for several months and lost some good weight but the monkey is on my back again.

All about comfort food. Need to find something else to take comfort in!

You definitely are on top of everything and gave some great advice and I appreciate it.

Funny you mention stay out of bad neighborhoods at night because I used to walk from Rock Plaza in the city to the ferry at 3am after work using the west side, which was a den of drug dealers, prostitutes and ghouls of the worst kind.

I just liked to see if I could make it to the ferry every night :)

What an idiot :)

Than you again.
