Pop megastar Taylor Swift revealed in a recent interview that she has no plans to give up her political activism mere months after her failed effort to help elect former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen (D) to the U.S. Senate.
I definitely think there are political undertones in the new music I made, Taylor Swift told the German publication RTL. Im not planning to stop encouraging young people to vote and to try to get them to talk about whats going on in our country. I think thats one of the most important things I could do.
In October 2018, Swift shocked the entertainment world by breaking her long-held silence on politics with an endorsement of Bredesen for U.S. Senate and Democrat Jim Cooper for U.S. House of Representatives, citing their record on LGBT issues.
As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn, Shake It Off singer wrote. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values.

That is great to hear. Do you know if she was into liberalism before taking this conservative turn, or was she neutral? Just wondering if this was a conversion or a first awakening, so to speak. David Horowitz is one of my favorite conversion stories, btw.
Irrelevant.
YOU may not know any of Taylor Swift's songs but 100 million present and future voters do.
But I'm glad that YOU don't know any of her songs. This makes us all feel much better.
Sheesh. 100 million of them. 1 of you. Dang I'm relieved.
Well, she's single-handedly killing her career. We can thank her for that, at least.....................
“technically she sings country music, not rock”
Not true. She started in Country. Then she had some crossover hits. But now she is pretty much Pop/Rock exclusively.
Actually, she started off as a country artist then transitioned to rock...well...pop, really.
Then I stand corrected, I haven’t heard any of her music in years and I returned to my roots of heavy metal. LOL
“and I returned to my roots of heavy metal”
Yea, you won’t find her there. At least not yet.
Only because she thinks people will vote the way wants.
Shes only doing this, hypocritically, because her fans ARENT voting the way she wants. Shes not for more voting participation at all.
Never will either, she doesn’t have the pipes for it. LOL
I remember when Cher went “Heavy Metal”, yeah it was pretty bad.
I guess she figured out the she had better kowtow to the liggibbets who are probably those most likely to buy the stuff she’s selling.
Most of her fans can’t vote...................until they turn 18..............
Most of her fans have moved on to the next flavor of the month.
Their side has Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, and every other late night entertainer.
Their side has 95% of outspoken entertainers in television and movies.
Their side has 95% of outspoken entertainers in music.
Their side does entertainment which attracts tens of millions of viewers, who get a bit of politics and world-view thrown in. They do NOT refer to themselves as liberal.
Their side does news, but does not refer to it as liberal.
Our side does almost zero entertainment (relatively) and when we do news, we always lable it conservative.
1. Let’s stop being stupid, create some entertainment, and add our worldview as an unhighligted add-on to the entertainment.
2. Let’s stop labelling our news as conservative. Just call it news.
3. Let’s stop being reactionary and start being aggressive and clever.
Taylor Who?
Pop culture...................aptly named............
Her older sister was (I thought) tending toward conservatism before she spent four years at an (ivy league) college. Now she's a liberal, although not what I would call a far-leftist.
The younger sister, like my daughter, has been exposed to the liberal "full monty" since an early age. One of the close friends in their circle "came out" as a boy a few years back; her trajectory has been very sad, as you might expect. Everyone in my daughter's friend group is well aware of that situation.
Her older sister grew up in the 1990s, and so wasn't as internet-saturated as the typical suburban millennial.
Here's another thing. I asked her "so how many of your friends at (insert name of high school here) are conservative" and she said "two." I said "what percentage of your total friends is that?" and she said "all."
Then I said "well, how many kids at (insert high school name) are conservative?" and she said "not that many."
I said "well, give me a percentage? Two percent? Five percent"?
She looked a little puzzled, and said "about half."
Shes awesome at endorsing. Please proceed Ms. Swift.
Will it be sung to the tune of “Get Physical?” I might like it then.
Be Careful. We’ve got a fan here who apparently knows everything about her, and is very sensitive to criticism of her.
