MacKenzie Bezos has promised to give at least half of her fortune to charity, just months after finalizing her divorce from the world's richest man.

The newly minted billionaire has signed the Giving Pledge, which encourages the world's richest people to dedicate a majority of their wealth to charitable causes, either during their lifetimes or in their wills.

The initiative was launched by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates in 2010 and has so far attracted the support of 204 individuals and families. MacKenzie Bezos became one of the richest people in the world following her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos earlier this year. She ranks 22nd on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Her personal fortune is now worth an estimated $36.6 billion. Her former husband leads the global rankings with a net worth of roughly $114 billion. MacKenzie Bezos said in a letter announcing the move that "I have a disproportionate amount of money to share."

How nice. But she’s still filthy rich off a man’s hard work. Tell me she married him for love.

It’s a wonderful and generous gesture, giving away billions that her husband earned. I hope it goes to worthy causes. But I wouldn’t count on it.

God help us. Planned Parenthood, GLAAD, La Raza 5th column groups, “refugee resettlement” organizations. One can only imagine the damage to America that will come from this liberal’s largesse.

Well to be fair(yeah, right) she and jeffy got hitched way before he started amazon and wasn’t in the prenup stage of wealth at that time so....... I think he was a hedge fund manager or something. And, I don’t care enough to look it up. LOL! As long as I get a new guitar stand next day no shipping, I’m good. :-)

Society would be better off if she destroyed the riches.

Concentrated money can be just as dangerous as a nuclear weapon.

Putting the riches into the hands of leftist “charities” is asking for trouble.

Based on seeing how these greedy charities translate money into power, lawsuits, societal discord and disruption, we’d be better off if she would convert it into money and burn it.

the problem is what happens to the foundation when the founders pass away.

Look at the Ford Foundation. Henry Ford was a traditional guy - but years later they become a SJW foundation that care about women’s reproductive rights and support of migrants. The folks that followed came from high powered universities and dont follow the mode of Ford.

It is hers to do with as she pleases but. These pledges are nothing but a diversion to keep the little people off their backs while bolstering their favorite liberal causes in a tax advantaged way.

Half? I hope she can manage somehow on the other 18 billion. At some point it becomes meaningless.

How are Gates and Buffet progressing on their pledge? Last I saw they are not even close to spending the interest.

The problem with people who have great fortunes is that they claim superior attributes to themselves and thereby try to shape the world in their image to their liking. Some good is done such as the Carnegie Libraries but they are often much better at making money than they are at social engineering.

Flail away with socialist rhetoric if you will. I don’t care.

There are a bunch of them that are far out of what the original intent was. New ‘directors’ and boards get in position and alter the original intent to their own desires. Pretty sad state of affairs. I’d be willing to say that 99.9% end up in demolib plans. And, it is a LOT of money.

Why not give it to the biggest charity on earth... The government. She and her former hubby have avoided paying taxes for decades and left that duty to middle class American’s... Give them a break and pay up.

Her parents are flaming conservative Republicans — and nice people to boot — so there is at least a fair chance that some of the cash will go to the right kind of causes.

Idiot. She wasn’t the creator of the fortune, so she didn’t value it.

Speaks volumes about her lack of capabilities.

its more difficult for a working class joe to gie $20 bucks then these elites "giving" their billions away...

"giving" being the key world, because you know with these elites there is always a tax angle...tax angle plus power to direct monies to political causes.....

What would be great to see is if the “Bezos Foundation” (for lack of a better name) dedicated half of that money to non-profit organziations with a net worth under $1 million.

There are many, many non-profits out there who help, preserve and promote worthy causes, but struggle to keep the lights on, the building rent paid and still have enough left over to promote themselves to the public. Getting grant money from large foundations requires more paperwork than is often worth it. And, of course, you practically have to prove that you want the money because you don’t really need the money. And these are the NON-governmental groups!

Carnegie was very generous with his money, supporting the Smithsonian, libraries, Carnegie Tech, etc.

This is just a scam that is part of the US tax code. The donor gets huge tax benefits. The money now grows tax free. And the grantor (MB in this case) gets to decide how much is given to which charities and causes and when it will be given.
If the media would even make a minimal effort in explaining this the majority of taxpayers would agree with Leona Helmsley: Taxes are for the little guy (she could have added “and losers”).
It is truly exciting what a person with say $10 or $20 million can do these days. Put half of your cash and assets in a donor-advised charity. Live on the other half. Watch the charitable pile of $$$ grow. And give from that pile to the charitable causes that are important to YOU.
Maybe this will help to further explain why rich people have so cute a sense of moral superiority. Some of them know how the rules are truly in their favor.

If she wants to get back at Jeff she should give it to WalMart, instead - so they can expand their web sales presence. :)

What amazes me is how she became one of the richest women in the world. And then as luck would have it she also became one of the most beautiful women in the world. MacKenzie I’m interested in dating you. Please send pics of planes, helicopters, sports cars, yachts, and luxury motor coaches in your collection.
