Kate Middleton visits D-Day exhibition at WWII codebreaker HQ where her grandmother Valerie worked
Metro UK ^ | May 2019 | James Hockaday

The Duchess of Cambridge visited the home of the Second World War codebreakers who helped decipher the German Enigma machine. Middleton went to see an exhibition on the team’s role in D-Day ahead of the 75th anniversary of the landings in June.

But Bletchley Park is of particular significance to Kate as her grandmother Valerie Glassbow was one of the codebreakers who helped crack Nazi military messages. The team were crucial in helping Allied forces stay one step ahead as they planned their invasion of Normandy.

Kate, 37, re-wore a £1,750 polka dot dress as she mingled with the crowd before visiting the newly restored Teleprinter Building which was used as a wartime communications hub. She visited the estate near Milton Keynes to meet codebreakers and to view an interactive exhibition named D-Day: Interception, Intelligence, Invasion.

The immersive film looks at the full scale of the top secret operation at Bletchley Park which helped end the war. Valerie and her twin sister Mary were part of the crack team which also included mathematician and computer science pioneer Alan Turing.

Valerie was one of many ‘ordinary’ women on the team whose work was kept secret for nearly half a century. She died in 2006 without ever speaking publicly about her role in the war.

A group of up to 300 British D-Day military veterans will be saluted by land, sea and air on both sides of the channel in next month in honour of the landings. Two days of ceremonies will include Spitfire flypasts, a naval gun salute and an Anglo-French parachute drop.

Kate's family legacy was interesting since before she joined the British monarchy. Her lineage is replete with devoted veterans of both World Wars. Hopefully more Brits are taking stock in their heritage and honoring the memory of their ancestors.

>> Kate ... re-wore a £1,750 polka dot dress ...

What relevance does wearing a $2,200 dress have to do with a visit to Bletchley Park? Sounds like a microaggression to me. Wimmings?

Speaking of ancestors I wonder if Uncle John Trump and his efforts to save Great Britain will be mentioned when the family visits next month.

Valerie Glassbow and her twin sister Mary were part of the Second World War codebreakers who helped decipher the German Enigma machine.

Working alongside Alan Turing, they deciphered enough critical code to allow Turing to refine the program of his first self built computer to break the Enigma's daily code resets in a matter of minutes rather than days.

Well done, Ladies!

How much did her husband suit cost, that’s what we really want to know.

Both ladies very pretty.

Wow, I’m right up there with Kate. I re-wear and re-wear and re-wear and re-wear everything. Ok, what was the point of the author stating this?

I visited Bletchley Park back in August of 2007. That was before they had decided to restore it. Back then, they had a big room filled with a private collection of Churchill memorabilia. It was fascinating to walk through the aisles, and see all the stuff. If I remember correctly, the collection was owned by Jack Darrah. When new management moved in, the new director nixed the collection, saying that the wartime Prime Minister "is not synonymous with code-breakers' work." Whatever happened to the collection is unknown.

Here's a link to a video of Jack Darrah regarding his exhibit:

When the Trumps visit next month, maybe they could take, as a gift, a replica of the bust of Sir Winston Churchill that President Trump restored to the Oval Office after Obama had had it removed.

Maybe they could take two replicas: one for Harry and Meghan.

Love this woman. What a great Queen she will make, if Charles doesn’t turn it into an Islamic Republic first.

What’d “née” Markle do to celebrate Memorial Day now that she’s royalty?

We visited two years ago; we didn’t see a Churchill exhibition. We did the Churchill war rooms- both great.

I do not know, but even before she met Prince Harry, a veteran himself --when she was still an actress -- Meghan Markle went on several overseas trips to visit with our active-duty military troops in places like Iraq. Including on Christmas.

I’m glad I was able to see the exhibit before they closed it. I wasn’t aware it had closed until I read this article, and went searching for it. On my first Sunday in London in 2006, I found Churchill’s War Rooms, and then a day or two later, took a tour out to Blenheim Palace. I had a week in London before starting a 3 week bus tour of the British Isles. For me it was the trip of a lifetime. I had a bucket list to do that week, and managed to get every single thing done. I was lucky enough to be able to go back to London for 10 days the following year, and that’s when I went to Bletchley.

It’s laughable how people can be easily swayed when they don’t do their research.

Markle is the LAST person who should be visiting troops.
She is a leftist, a progressive in line with the likes of Big ike, Lil’ Barry, Oprah, etc..... they are all her NEW friends , too, since she married The Haz. When she came to Ireland on a official visit with The Haz she also made her views on abortion very clear and is pro-abortion.

She was a D-lister bit part player on a flunky cable tv show.

During the time she was in Toronto filming she ingratiated herself with the likes of Mulrooney & others . Also during this time she hired a PR Firm to raise her profile so she could snag a rich husband via her new connections. The PR firm engaged her on several trips and this was one of them.

It’s also noted she went to Africa re: U.N. World Vision as Ambassador re: water sources . This so called humanitarianism wwere just PR gigs. She is a faux humanitarian and all that feel good and feely feely love for people went down the drain when she cornered The Haz.

She spent more money on her wardrobe in less than one year than ANY OTHER ROYAL IN EUROPE & the amount was over 1mil $’s in the short time she was married in May of 2018.

She is no favorite of the Monarchy for her blatant refusal and rejection in following protocol and if you do YOUR research .......you will find out more about her that is not
very nice- hmmmmmmmmmmm..........lets see , for one? there is a connection to Jeff Epstein and then there is a sex tape. She’s also a old yacht girl snogging the likes out of Mike Mnuchin & a few other high profilers , too.

She’s your classic cold hearted bitch, making diva demands of her staff, money grubbing, gold digging faux humanitarian .

Go ask Piers Morgan he’ll fill your ear.
