It’s a rat snake. Leave the them alone and they’ll keep the rats down.

Very good climbers and can scale walls.

“Large”? It’s not even 4ft. Barely into the adult stages.

Here in TX, my Vet “loans” them out to people who have a rat/mouse problem. Just place the snake in the crawl space under the house, My Vet insists the sounds of screaming rodents soon follow.

Rat shakes are awesome- They only kill rodents here and there, and don’t really significantly contribute to a massive reduction in rodents, - but still good to have around- they are harmless- but can bite- just don’t harass em, and they’re fine

We have em around here and just leave em alone.
I have one 6 footer that hangs around my shop....scares the living heck outta me sometimes when I stumble up on him.
They’re not poisonous, but IF their bite breaks the skin, you’re gonna have a bad infection problem due to the nasty vermin that they eat.
Sometimes, he’ll just lay there and hardly move at all even when gently poked, but let a mouse scurry across that shop floor, Katie bar the door....LOL You’d be surprised just how fast that big boy is....like greased lightening.

FRED, the “semi-tame” Texas Rat-snake at the Nature Center in Boerne LOVES being “picked-up”, “carried around” by the kids & played with.

He’s about 6 feet long & nearly as big around as my bicep.

yours, tex
