A cart attendant at a Walmart in Texas got quite the scare on Friday after discovering a large rat snake in a group of shopping carts.
The Northeast Police Department said in a Facebook post that the reptile had worked its way into the group of carts at a return area of the Walmart in Cross Roads, located north of Dallas.
"A loud scream across the parking lot at Walmart drew the attention of an NEPD Officer who was patrolling the area, at dusk this evening," the department said.

So somebody shoplifted a rat snake and left it in the cart ??
Ah, leave him be.. hes just keeping an eye out for rodents.
Exactly right.
What the devil is a rat snake?
That’s a baby. The one’s around here are 6-7 feet and solid black. They’re very mild and easy to pick up.
That critter warrants a loud scream.
[[ This will probably cut down on the shopping crowds at Walmart. ]]
Are you kidding? That there’s ‘free food’!
Rat shakes are awesome- They only kill rodents here and there, and don’t really significantly contribute to a massive reduction in rodents, - but still good to have around- they are harmless- but can bite- just don’t harass em, and they’re fine
We have em around here and just leave em alone.
I have one 6 footer that hangs around my shop....scares the living heck outta me sometimes when I stumble up on him.
They’re not poisonous, but IF their bite breaks the skin, you’re gonna have a bad infection problem due to the nasty vermin that they eat.
Sometimes, he’ll just lay there and hardly move at all even when gently poked, but let a mouse scurry across that shop floor, Katie bar the door....LOL You’d be surprised just how fast that big boy is....like greased lightening.
[[I do recall some nutria. I hear they are a kind of rat.]]
And delicious too- or so they say
Voldemort?
RAT Snake? I didn’t know snakes were political, though I knew that politicians might be snakes!
visited 12 states .. Passed thru PA once a long time ago.
I think you mean 12 Countries/Nations?
How do you hide in a shopping cart?
I doubt it, they are very common and there are usually good habitat/hunting grounds for constrictor snakes near every Walmart since the company does their own wastewater treatment; and also this includes stormwater collection ponds.
I guess people are going to have to start shopping with their hoe’s...
Nagini
I’ve heard that Carvelle’s actual Marine Corps nickname was ‘ol snakehead
