The problem with “The Prisoner” was most of the series content was Allegorical (as was the ending) , and american main stream viewers really didn’t ‘do’ allegorical.

Allegory - a representation of an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material forms; figurative treatment of one subject under the guise of another.

The whole series dealt with society and government controlling people’s lives and the many ways it does.

Add a European bent ontop of that.

At some point the allegory should be exposed. "The Prisoner never did that."

But I loved that Lotus Super Seven, whatever it stood for.
