I can’t remember exactly, but I saw it a looooong time ago. Many months, maybe even more than a year.

At the time, it was “debunked” because of “Michael” instead of “Christopher” Steele and MI5/MI6 was supposedly wrong.

I’m not saying the letter is genuine, but here are some arguments in favor:

1. Those could be just routine mistakes. Do you think Hannigan really cares what the guy’s correct name is or even knows him? Maybe. But maybe not.

2. How smart is Hannigan? (If we’ve learned anything about the derps in the past 18+ months, it’s that MANY of them are not too bright.) Not saying RH isn’t, but worth considering.

3. Could there be a DIFFERENT guy named Steele, Michael Steele, who is involved in this? Steele is not a particularly unusual name.

4. At the time this letter surfaced (at least when I first saw it), the name “Hannigan” was not on my radar screen. Definitely a name that someone could have looked up if he was forging a letter from the head of GCHQ. Also, not sure if I knew what GCHQ was at the time. But this means that if it’s a forgery, the forger had to have a lot of pertinent info and was tuned into such things. The letterhead, the classification, the project name, the address, the positions of the people mentioned, the “GCHQ References: A/7238/6547/12”, etc. Access to Hannigan’s signature. I don’t know how difficult it would be to come by those components, but it’s not stuff that you’d easily know/find. So the forger had to be knowledgable and/or have some very knowledgeable connections.

5. I read several articles supposedly debunking this, but I don’t recall ANY of them saying it was photoshopped. No incorrect typefaces, no misalignment, no layers where something was dropped in. So again, if it’s a forgery, it was VERY WELL DONE. Much better forgery than the 0vomit BC!
