LONDON (Reuters) - Fighting back tears, Theresa May said on Friday she would quit, setting up a contest that will install a new British prime minister who could pursue a cleaner break with the European Union.May’s departure deepens the Brexit crisis as a new leader, who should be in place by the end of July, is likely to want a more decisive split, raising the chances of a confrontation with the EU and potentially a snap parliamentary election. Her voice cracking with emotion, May, who endured crises and humiliation in her failed effort to find a compromise Brexit deal that parliament could ratify, said she would resign on Friday, June 7 with a leadership contest beginning the following week.

Me too..confusion galore! I thought there was an election yesterday haven’t been able to find results. I’m assuming the Brexit party and tommy Robinson lost since no news of them has been reported ....correct?

All she had to do was negotiate a hardnose leave with the EU and she’d still be in office. Now likely Boris Johnson will do it.

Theresa is another of the cabal of Euro leaders who has zero children. Boris has four. Time for people who have a stake in the future to get the steering wheel.

She was duplicitous from the start—a Remainer who seized power after the pro-Brexit vote by claiming she would follow through on the will of the people. All along however she was a globalist working against that will, talking doubletalk and delaying to no end, then ultimately came up with a falsely claimed Brexit that would have cemented Britain’s capture by the Continentalists even more than the status quo.

She truly was a horrid, horrid actor in this whole affair and no, nobody should feel the least bit sorry for her. She never should have grasped the prime minister role to do exactly the opposite of what she was promising her fellow countrymen — and what they had voted for.

No, there is an election this weekend, but it is not for the UK parliament.

It is for the European Parliament, which is a powerless body where a lot of fringe parties usually do well because voter turnout is so low because there’s nothing at stake.

May is not a leader. They could sure use a Churchill.

The reason the results are not known is because the rest of Europe still hasn’t voted. They can’t even release the exit polls until Saturday.

but the economic life of the UK would be badly damaged, something the Brexiteers don’t understand.

The majority do understand the economic impact but have less concern for it than the return of British sovereignty. Trade with the continent will resume as the UK is a prime partner. One of the largest issues was that Britain, Wales, and Ireland want their fishing rights to stay within the power of the UK and not the EU.

This is what happens when you give up a piece of your sovereignty. They own you.

Yes, the EU is like the Hotel California: You can check in; but, you can never leave.

Yes, and fishing and fish processing contributes almost 1/8 of 1% of UK GDP.

But of course, after financial services and manufacturing de-camp for greener pastures, fishing will be a larger % of a much smaller economy, so will be relatively more important.

We were in London in March, and to merely confirm what is already widely known, there aren't any English left in London.

However, if you want to see a region that is practically 100% British, and resembles in many ways the London I remember when first visited as a kid in the 70s, is the southern coast of Spain.

Here you will see the white skin, lumpy dumpy demeanor, bad clothing (anti-fashion), slightly overweight, sunburnt slightly drunk English that I recall so well. (Went to a UK based school for a year.)

The question I ask myself is were they pushed or did they flee? The weather is so terrible in GB that part of me thinks that once they got a chance to get out, they never looked back. Besides, if any owned their homes, the equity appreciation from the demand caused by the massive immigration population increase has allowed them to retire in luxury.

She should have recruited other countries to join in leaving the EU - might have made negotiations easier.

Nonsense. The 17.4 million Brits who voted Leave knew exactly what they were
voting for. The Brits May suffer some temporarily with a clean Brexit, but in
the long term they will be a sovereign country again. Plus they can use the 39 Billion they were going to hand over to the E.U. dictators to help in the short term.

Since yesterday people are voting for the European elections, votes end on Sunday, it is likely the main UK parties will lose all their seats to Nigel Farrage Brexit party in the Euro parliament
