FLORIDA: A man walked into a pawn shop in Florida, put his baby on the counter and, according to police, asked how much he could get for the kid. "This is what I got," the father, Richard Slocum, said as he placed the infant before the owner of the store in Sarasota, on Florida's Gulf coast. "He's barely used, seven and a half months old, what do you think he's worth?"
The father later told officers he had been joking, but the shop owner didn't see the humor and called the police.
"He was pretty serious about it," Richard Jordan told a local television news channel. "He spun the baby around, and said, 'Can I pawn this?'"
Jordan called the police as soon as Slocum left, saying he was concerned for the child's wellbeing.
"Slocum claims that his encounter with the store clerk was a prank and that he wanted to place his own video on social media," the police department said in a statement.
Slocum contacted law enforcement himself after he heard on social media that they were trying to identify the person behind the stunt. Dozens of police and local officials then descended on his home, he said.
"They didn't find it funny or hilarious at all and there was a lot of resources and time and money that went into it," said Slocum, a single parent who makes video clips that he, at least, considers humorous and shares them on Snapchat.
Jordan, the shopkeeper, was not laughing. "This is not funny, this is serious business," he told the news channel.
Police said detectives verified the child was safe and contacted social services.
"At this time, there are no criminal charges for this investigation," the police department said.
“Slocum claims that his encounter with the store clerk was a prank and that he wanted to place his own video on social media,” the police department said in a statement.
...
Probably true.
If this guy is charged with any crime related to his stunt, why is that Smollet cat, not in jail?
Surprised they didn't go in with a SWAT team and shoot the dog.
I used to hope for free babysitting, using the phrase, “Why own when you can rent?”
No takers.
Why is this bothersome to a population that sanctions the killing of newborn babies—that not only sanctions it but celebrates it?
It would also be nice if he would get the mans permission to put the video on the internet.
Not everyone celebrates this kind of behavior. Maybe it was not meant seriously, but how would a bystander know? In my opinion, this is one of those things best not joked about.
A very interesting episode of "Pawn Stars" in the making.
Why does “Little Jerry Seinfeld” come to mind?
And is the selling of a child any less evil than infanticide?
This is where the Left, the Democrat Party, and the decadence of Western Civilization have brought us, and if such trends continue, where will the lead? Snuff films? Torture for public entertainment? Death camps?
There was a time when we recoiled in horror at the excesses of the Roman Empire and other nations suffused with evil and decadence. We could not imagine--and did not believe--that such evils could ever be acceptable in the United States. Today we know that they can.
If We the People do not stop it, no one will.
And this is why I have brought this to the attention of those who read posts on Free Republic. We must not ignore evil. We must shine the light of truth on it. That's the only way to prevent it. Beyond that, we can only rely on the internal moral compass of every man, woman, and child in America and pray for the best.
BTW, I agree. This is not a joking matter. I was not joking—far from it.
Based 0n the kid’s genetics, he wouldn’t have been worth much anyway.
“Florida Man” once again makes headlines
These are very common....
Should have walked into a Planned Parenthood “office”.
Planned Parenthood acts like a stolen car chop shop, or an Auto Wrecker
Planned Parenthood would have given cash for the baby, offered up the parts to their “Research Customers”, and taken a fee to broker the deals.
I believe a group went out and got the gory details on tape. The evil ones even bragged how they paid for exotic automobiles via this sinfull practice
The dad may be in violation of wire tap laws.
He apparently recorded his conversation with the pawn shop owner without his permission. I dont know if this would be illegal in Florida or not.
dad is an idiot. probably thinks everything that shoots out of his mouth is comedy gold.
