Ha, for years, I never cared, because I’d have had to go somewhere to take a test, but then after my SAT scores got inflated over the years, I found that that qualified me. I joined and then realized like the Butler’s Union on The Nanny, they were just in it for the dues, and let my membership lapse.

Ditto on MENSA. Some might see the value in it, I didn't. Seemed more like a mutual admiration society, many savants,cliquish and overall felt insular and snobbish. All you really get is the right to say 'I belong to MENSA' which gets you resented many.
Bottom line re IQ- unintelligent people breed the same and, if not, their child is unlikely to be encouraged by parents who cannot understand, or value, a much smarter child.
