Last year my neighbors here in S.E. Michigan adopted one that had been sent here from Texas.

We figured it must have been abandoned or lost during Hurricane Harvey

There is that too. But I know the Humane Society of North Texas and a few rescues I follow will fly animals to other parts of the country so they can get them adopted. The number of animals here is overwhelming.
