Trump as Folk Hero
American Thinker ^ | 5/18/2019 | Gordon Wysong

How has Trump maintained his base through all the adversity of the last three years? Surprisingly, the explanation is simple. His critics haven’t talked to the people, but instead, have talked to each other. These experts still don’t know how America got here, but the people do.

When the vast unwashed masses voted for Trump, there were several reasons, and the most important was Hillary Clinton. To defeat her would require someone who could break the logjam of Midwest industrial states. It was obvious that Clinton could not appeal to them, because she lacked sincerity. What was also obvious was that none of the usual cast of Republicans could do so, either.

After Romney’s farcical campaign, a Republican candidate needed to secure all Romney’s electoral votes and win over an additional 64 electors. To most conservatives, Cruz was acceptable philosophically, but he could not win the general election. Florida might support either Trump or Cruz, yielding 29 of those needed, but to get 35 more would require Ohio’s 18 and at least one other big state. Conservatives didn’t need to go through the actual math to know that Cruz couldn’t do it. The stark choice was between a long shot, and an almost certain loss.

Watching the field was a like breathlessly waiting for an overdue redemption. Republican campaigns had been vanilla quests for power without purpose. This time, if conservatives weren’t going to win, at least they would still get a say. Trump was being scorned by every media outlet, but continued to make salient points. The MSM would pen a 700-word article belittling Trump, and he would tweet 20 words that had more wisdom, more punch, and more credibility than that article. The defiant “You and whose army!” seemed to be the response to each challenge.

This is wrong. His critics talk at us all the time and tell us how stupid we are. What they don't do is provide a clear view of what they would like to happen for the country (Dump Trump vs the MAGA agenda - you know national security, immigration reform and boarder control, deregulation the economy, getting the welchers out of the swamp - all that). They don't have an agenda except power and access to the public fisc for their own ends.

That's why Trump wins and they lose. And deservedly so. And by the way there is nothing wrong with Trump and that is their blidness they cannot see. We actually kind of like him in that fond of a mad orange uncle kind of way.

He’s my hero!

Hero is an overused word, I believe, and should be reserved for our military and first responders, for the most part

....but Donald Trump saw and understood our nation’s need.......and heeded the call

He willingly took on the Deep State and all their hideous minions and devils ......just to give our nation hope of stepping away from the abyss

He had to know, at some level, he would become unpopular.......but I’m not sure even he envisioned the hatred, lies, mockery, deceit poured on him and his family.......and us! 24/7 for 4 long years!

He said he would gladly take the slings and arrows for us.....,AND HE HAS!

HE’S MY HERO!

The commoners, 63 million strong, got revenge and vindication on election night.

This part isn't right and this is part of the problem. The 63 M are not "commoners." These are the actual hard working craftsmen, tradesmen, artisans, engineers, etc. who get stuff done, unlike the "elite" who are no 'effin such thing.

But this part is dead on

Then with crossed fingers, the masses prayed that Trump would take a common-sense approach, rather than betray supporters. ...Trump proved to be what almost no one had dared hope for, the savior of this great nation. In two years, he has not taken on a single major step to undermine the rule of law or subvert principle for corrupt vote-buying practices. He erased the shrinking violet forfeiture of American leadership, and the antsy impulse to jump into a foreign ground wars. Each time a challenge has been presented, Trump has risen to meet it head on. What a refreshing change. Not just because our recent presidents have all tried to skirt controversy, but especially because the left has tried to prohibit debate. Trump has excited his base by his rejection of this established norm. He has reached legendary status as a champion of the individual.

And that bolded last part is key. We are a nation that thrives on individual achievement and individual initiative and always have. It's the socialist progressive collective that drags us down every single time, lead by those who know in their heart of hearts that they are utterly worthless useless unskilled individuals with nothing personally to contribute.

Do you see anywhere to post a reply at the linked thread, because I don’t see one. Weird.

It was obvious that Clinton could not appeal to them, because she lacked sincerity.

This is so simplistic as to be laughable. Sure the emotional bond between a politician and his supporters is a key issue, but it's a whole lot more than lacking sincerity. It has to do with the inability to understand what needs to be done and articulate how it will be done. Hillary and Mittens are in the same camp here. Totally vapid and empty both of them.

It is because none of them can see - see what a real problem is - any of the real problems - and then do something, you know like not indulging in the temptation to bring liberal democracy to the middle east at gun point or some such oxymoronic idiocy.

POTUS DJT is a hero for WTP, US common folk.

He is seen as such through these eyes.
God Bless him.

BIG BAD JOHN
(Jimmy Dean)
Every mornin’ at the mine you could see him arrive
He stood six-foot-six and weighed two-forty-five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew ya didn’t give no lip to big John
(Big John, big John)
Big bad John (big John)

So far Trump has been consistent in pursuing his campaign promises - but this is one where I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

<>He is our modern Patton, Grant, and Churchill<>

If he advocates an Article V convention, it will happen. He’ll join the rank of Abraham Lincoln.

For once the country actually looked toward a leader who wasn’t
a child of the gov’t complex. Trumps history is vastly different
than most politicians. Yes they may talk in larger dollar numbers
but very few have those dollars invested in the private sector
rather than the gov’t sector of ‘here’s what is good for you the
citizen. Let us provide it for you. JMO.
