On behalf of LGBTQ San Franciscans and all Americans, I am incredibly proud to have voted to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act in the House of Representatives today. With this critical legislation, we are one step closer to finally, fully ending discrimination against LGBTQ Americans, and moving our nation closer to fulfilling the promise of equality, opportunity and justice for every American.

This passage right here is where concern needs to be focused:

“(7) The discredited practice known as “conversion therapy” is a form of discrimination that harms LGBTQ people by undermining individuals sense of self worth, increasing suicide ideation and substance abuse, exacerbating family conflict, and contributing to second class status.”

Pay attention to any LGBT legislation with the term "conversion therapy" included. This will be used against parents, mark my words, when they try to reason with their gender and sexual identity-confused children. They're already pulling this crap in Canada where parents are finding themselves in violation of the law.

There are people refusing to recognize men in dresses as women, hurting their feelings by saying you can’t stay in the women’s shelter or the dorm.

There are charities still arguing that two men or two women shouldn’t be first to adopt babies.

There are religious schools teaching the traditional views of gender and marriage, and that’s hate speech to be banned, given the British legislation that passed on this a few years ago. They ordered a Jewish orthodox school to teach homosexuality is OK and introduce transgenderism ... the 5-12 year old girls.

"Conversion therapy" isn't about therapy in the traditional sense. It is 100 percent absolutely about stripping away parental rights.

When a child comes home from school and says they want to transition from male to female, parents won't be allowed to say no without violating the law.

Conservatives had better wake up to this.
