Garamendi has an IQ of about 83.

You’re being generous by at least 10%, trust me I live in Calizuela. But he does have a point, he and all the other politicians have SOLD America Out and to The Chinese.

Yes, your concept makes sense, but it’s theoretical. Exactly at what level of “density” does it work or not work?

But also - inter-city passenger rail simply doesn’t exist anymore either. that should turn your relatively on its head. Say I wanted to go from Cleveland to Chicago - Its about a six hour drive, assuming good traffic. I can fly but then face the same issues you talked about - park at airports, waiting time, possible transfers, security, needing a car on arrival, etc...

A simple train trip could be done in 4 hours. Amtrak does run a service, but being Amtrak service is spotty and unreliable. Everyone imagines the convenience, but that’s only one element.

What would really needs to be looked at is supply side.

Suffice it to say, you can propose many theoretical reasons it won’t work - by simply extrapolating both heavy-handed government policy as well as rail vs. road vs. air economics from the past 50 years. Does they same apply to the present and future though?

The concept isn’t theoretical, it’s one of the issues facing rail planners.

Go look at the price of plane tickets for your Cleveland-Chicago trip. Go look at the price of fuel for your vehicle... then go look up the price of an Amtrak trip - and how long it takes. Also, realize that most train stations do not have conveniently co-located vehicle rental facilities.

You may then partially understand why inter-city passenger rail is all but dead. Further, trains are inflexible - you have to run a train on a fixed route. You still have to run the train even if nobody buys tickets on it. Planes can be reassigned easily.

You would think that it would take three or four hours by train to travel from Dallas to Houston. In Amtrak’s world, it takes two days. Two. Days.

I can’t decide if that Rep. (D-CA) is a chronic alcoholic who spouts nonsense or just a guy that likes to wear rouge on his cheeks.
