Klatch Coffee Roasters has procured 10 pounds of the exclusive Elida Natural Geisha coffee to split among its Southern California stores. At $1,200 a pound after roasting, each hot cup will cost a cool $75.
The unroasted coffee is imported from Panama and set a world record price of $803 per pound at the Best of Panama coffee competition. It’s available only from Klatch Coffee in North America.
The coffee company says Geisha is a rare variety of Arabica coffee that came to Panama from a research lab in Costa Rica, with origins in Ethiopia. It’s known for its floral, tea-like and stone fruit flavors.

It's strange how tastes develop. My parents always brewed Folger's in an old aluminum drip coffee pot. The aroma was quite distinctive. When my father and I went fishing, he would always bring a thermos of black Folger's to drink When I got thirsty enough I would choke some down. At home I could tolerate it with milk and sugar. Anyway, I grew to hate even the smell of Folger's. (Not quite rational, I know, but what was, was.) Maxwell House was a pleasant change.
Since then, I will drink just about any coffee (except Folger's), but I prefer Colombian.
Vietnamese Robusta is about as good a cup of coffee as you can get and it is only more expensive than the Vietnamese Arabica which is very like Kona which used to sell for 100 a pound before the VN competition drove it down. You can get the VN Arabica at Dollar Tree at 6 oz for a buck in the Mountain High brand. Spending 75 for a cup of coffee is merely showing that you are very wealthy and do not choose to touch your lips to something that mere mortals would drink. VN coffee is grown in the best conditions there are outside like those in Ethiopia and Hawaii and is cheap because there is so much of it exported. it is also why instant coffee now is much less harsh than it used to be. Same for cheap Decaf. Both are made from the cheapest beans available and now have a large admixture of VN.

Thank you for the message info on VN coffee. I had assumed most of the mass market instant was Brazilian. Could the VN get into the stevia business, as Paraguay doesn’t make enough, and I’d rather not buy from the Chicoms? (VN is only a little better in ways, but not nearly as hegemonistic.)

Yes. Even the decaf version is pretty good.
I’ve found that Costco’s dark roast is tolerable, and roughly the half the price of Starbucks Verona (dark). This in the K-cups. i like Peets and the various Starbucks offerings, but the Costco and Sam’s Choice offerings taste fine at a much lower price.

The best coffee in the world? Whatever is brewed first thing in the morning when we’re camping. It gets the palate ready for the bacon and eggs that are coming in Ron Swanson proportions.

2 years ago hubby came back from Panama with a few pounds of some geisha coffee. It was not that expensive. It was OK. Low acid and very fruity and naturally weak. He had to really make a lot to get a strong cup. I would think most any coffee lover who spent that much for a cup would be disappointed.
As a PS the best coffee I ever had may have been Maxwell House but brewed in my aunts stainless steel electric pitcher type percolator. That thing made the best coffee.
I had much the same experience as you in a Turkish restaurant. Had a "cup" of coffee, no bigger than a shot glass. I swear that I could hear colors for the rest of the day. Jeez, that was some strong stuff.
Taste like a fruity tea? Then just buy tea and add a few ‘fruit’ notes... a lot cheaper than $75 bucks for a cup.
