Honestly, I pray that open conflict does not come - Iran is not a serious threat to the United States though the law of unintended consequences comes into play. Some have said this could be a normal transition of carrier fleets as there has almost always been a carrier presence in the Gulf - I have my doubts that is the case.

Iran is looking at our base in Syria at Al-Tanf which controls the Lebanese border preventing Iran from building a highway from Tehran to the Mediterranean. They have been massing proxy troops loyal to Al-Qods commander, Gen Soleimani, and thousands of advanced missiles some with ranges up to 1000km

The attack(s) are being planned by master-plotter Qais al-Khazail, head of the Iraqi Kataib Hezballah militia.

Using small boat swarm attacks on the Navy or shipping is not the objective, and at best a diversion. Such an attack does not directly benefit Iran, but does cause the west pain. Al-Tanf, on the other hand, is a direct benefit.

The Golden Egg is to lay a severe blow on one of our carriers, either knock it out of action or preferably sink it. There are several countries who have hyper sonic missiles that may be capable of this, especially if several are launched simultaneously. I suspect our Navy doesn’t want to test this; example, we haven’t sent a carrier battle group through the Straits of Taiwan for awhile now. It’s possible that the carrier is in a similar situation that the battleship was upon the start of WWII, “dead man walking” but didn’t know it at the time. Eventually, some third rate power will test one of our carrier groups. It will be interesting to see if we have the capacity to defend it. We shall see, I’m thinking....

Define “a serious threat”...Iran would love to get a nuke onto our turf and it may be that a serious slap down may be the only thing that gets her attention to the point where the mullahs are deposed.
