President Donald Trump has downplayed a series of recent missile launches by North Korea, saying he doesn't consider the tests a setback amid stalled nuclear talks with Kim Jong Un. “They’re short-range and I don’t consider that a breach of trust at all," Trump said in an interview with Politico on Friday. "And, you know, at some point I may. But at this point no,” he added. “These were short-range missiles and very standard stuff. Very standard.”

It’s nothing more than part of China US trade negotiations.

No for the first time, I must wonder:

Kim might be walking a very trepidatious tightrope between sincere desire for peace with the outside world, and elements within his own regime. Elements who almost certainly have long been looking and praying for a chink in the armor of his family name to strike. If so, and were that to topple the Kim government, there may be an even more rogue state coming to control North Korea.

For now, I am trusting President Trump's judgment. For now.

Exactly. Trump bumps tariffs and purely by coincidence little Kim lights off a couple of missiles. This is China simply confirming that Kim's strings haven't been cut. All political theater.

As I understand it, our agreement with NK only concerns the bigger stuff: MRBMs and IRBMs. What NK launched was very short range missiles. Don’t forget that NK also trades with Russia, even shares a bit of border with them. The timing of these “tests” probably had more to do with the Putin meeting than us. Jeez, we can’t be so self-centered that we think everything everywhere is all about us.
