I just finished watching the long version of Das Boot. (The complete series in about 5 hrs.) The hands down winner, it actually had a lot of great acting. Its also back as a new 2018 series, that was also great. Look it up, Das Boat 2018. The next one is on the way.

Sahara (1942)...
Love that one too. It is my favorite. You have to watch it all the way to the very end, though. It is really under appreciated. What makes it special, is not it’s diverse cast (Boggie is great of course), but the dedication to duty and especially the supernatural that is incorporated into the movie.

Wow, this one and BATTLE OF ALGIERS (recommended up thread) are both on Criterion Channel. Thanks for recommend. One of my favorites is BALLAD OF A SOLDIER (Russia).

“Europa, Europa” (1990) based on the true story of a Jewish kid ending up in the Hitler Youth.
“Johnny Got His Gun” (1971), everyone has seen the super-abridged version music video “One” by Metallica but the movie has to be seen to appreciate that situation.
Already mentioned, “Fury” (2014) captures the gritty hell an American tank crew had to deal with during WWII.

Hacksaw Ridge was very inspiring. It’s the last time my husband and I went out for a movie. Most we just wait until they’re available for tv. IMHO, there are never more than about one movie a year REALLY worth seeing...sometimes two.
