Could Congress impose fines if Trump administration witnesses will not testify?

Members of Congress are blowing the dust off records more than a century old, looking for ways to compel reluctant Trump administration witnesses to testify — and to punish them if they refuse. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said Friday that if throwing administration figures into a House-run jail isn't an option, Congress could impose big monetary penalties. "You could fine someone $25,000 a day until they comply," he said at an event sponsored by Axios. "We're looking through the history and studying the law to make sure we're on solid ground."

Of course they can, as long as Trump signs the law, or they get enough votes in the House and Senate to override his veto.

They let here retire, with a full pension. Isn’t that punishment enough?

Notice they were using government agencies to use against political enemies. And congress did fvckall. I hope they all die in a fire.

Of course Congress can “impose” fines. Whether they can collect those fines is the relevant question.

If they do find a rational for fines, the Administration should allocate the money to pay them from funds earmarked for Planned Parenthood.
