Jim Fowler who with his friend Marlin Perkins co-hosted "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom," died Wednesday, according to the official website for the show. He was 89 and died at his home in Connecticut.
I'll always remember Marlin Perkins droning on from somewhere safe like a helicopter while Jim was trying to wrestle some 15 ft snarling alligator in a mud pit.

RIP “Jungle Jim”.
That is what I remember too.
LOL
“Jim will now go over and approach the wounded rhino while I watch from a half-mile away, through strong binoculars.”
Amazed you made it to 89, Mr. Fowler. RIP.
Enjoyed the show...
RIP. Yeah, that’s what I remember too - “Jim will now demonstrate how ancient peoples castrated Cape Buffalo with a stone axe...”
Careful, Jim, that could be dangerous.
“Shoeless Jim”
I’m sure Perkins only did what he was instructed to do for production value. Blaming him is kind of silly.
RIP, Mr. Fowler. Thanks for some great memories.

While Jim wrestles the alligator I will watch with the camera crew form across the river.
Robin Williams had a pretty funny take on how Wild Kingdom usually went:
Marlin Perkins: and now my assistant Jim will attempt to circumcise a water buffalo.......
Johnny Carson used to have a lot of fun with the show, but I think Marlin knew when Johnny made a bit of fun with you, that was about the highest form of flattery you could get.
And don’t forget the MUTUAL OF OMAHA sponsorship.
My dad used to joke and wonder if they gave life insurance to gazelles.
Actually Stan Brock was the shoeless guy
Ditto on that.
Wow...he was the YOUNG one on wild kingdom. Makes me feel old.
Without Jim, how will Marlon Perkins slip into the tent with the Native Girl and the Pitcher of Mai-Tais ??? (grin)
I seem to remember(?) that this show as well as Wonderful World of Disney came on Sunday nights.
My mom always made us clean up our rooms and take a bath before we could watch it. I was always the once running into the den with a towel around me just in time.
