the SCOTUS has ruled on this and the NYSlimes won’t lose- if someone gives a writer confidential info, even if its stolen, and the writer goes with it, they are not in violation of any law..
If said writer steals the information themselves, or has a hand in stealing it, they are in violation of the law...
