Ditto. A rule was broke and to not have any “above the rules”, he was disqualified and the runner up named winner. Like the said, any other race that’s the way it is handled. The rules are for the safety of horses and jockeys.
This is not the first time a Derby winner had been disqualified. The 1968 winner, Dancer’s Image, was disqualified when the post-race test came up positive for phenylbutazone. Forward Pass was declared the winner.
Dancer’s Image had been given the drug the Sunday before the race. The irony is that “bute” has subsequently been legalized, and virtually all racehorses use it.
