WTF is that?
It's a tactic that Google/YouTube uses to partially censor videos they want to restrict. By making people "log in" to view it, they convince a lot of people not to bother.

I’d certainly agree that Google search results now suck compared to the early days.
It’s both content censorship and financial ad revenue related.

I'm sure the irony is lost on the author, and probably you, that she's complaining about having to do unpaid work in the hope of getting paid in the future when she wants to take advantage of all the billions of dollars worth of speculative work that Google did - without paying.
