The Game of Thrones hype has gone too far when the Red Cross is camping out in local churches and offering commemorative posters to its congregants for donating blood. Seriously? Come on, people. Game of Thrones isn’t even thinly veiled porn, it’s just porn. Full stop.
Stop telling me how good the story is; you sound dumber than those guys who claim to read Playboy for the articles. Just admit what everyone knows: Game of Thrones is porn and you like it. I have no idea how anyone watches this show with their significant other without complete and total embarrassment. I tried watching the first season and called it quits during a midget orgy.

I agree that exposing our children to the stuff is awful, really awful.
I do agree that most of the nudity/sex scenes are gratuitous and exploitative and weren't needed to further the story. I think HBO execs were afraid that if there wasn't nudity, they'd lose an audience that expects HBO to show nudity, whether gratuitous or not, because HBO always has.

I get your point, but it is ironic that Ivanhoe actually is one of the major inspirations for a lot of stuff in the books. All that stuff about the tournament of Harrenhal, the kidnapping of Lyanna, and the plots of most of the “Dunk & Egg” stories are straight ripped from Ivanhoe.

Recently, in response to a female FReeper posting suggestions for a concealed carry holster, I posted a picture of a woman wearing a modest skirt, with one side lifted ever so slightly to show a thigh holster. Another FReeper claimed that image was more pornographoc than anything on Pornhub. I submit that FReeper has never seen Pornhub.

True, there are at best some oblique references to it in the LotR novels, but Tolkien doesn’t spell anything out. The closest he gets is when Gandalf is resurrected, since he is obviously changed and not just the same old Gandalf that survived somehow. So that begs the question of who resurrected him.
I think the actual nature of the fictional theology is only explained in the appendixes and in the Silmarillion.

I have never seen the show but saw part of a British series called Highlander. That started well but became misogynistic homosexual porn. I couldn’t take it and stopped watching. I don’t know why explicit sex in all it’s forms are stressed today? Have they run out of original plots and story lines? I thought the people in Hollywood and the media are suppose to be so creative! Instead, they fill the screen with lewd vulgarity and call it a day of heavy creative lifting at the office (or orifice). Sigh.

I am not sure what porn is, but I know it when I see it. Of course, it will take a lot of research first.
I know all about incestuous practices in royalty, going back to ancient Egypt and beyond. But by the middle ages in Europe, which the society in GoT approximates, direct brother and sister relationships were looked at with the same disdain as today. Why GRRM chose to almost normalize it is strange.
