A Texas high school sprinter set an incredible mark at a 100-meter event Saturday. Matthew Boling, of Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston, set a 9.98 mark at the Region III-6A track and field event. The 18-year-old posted a video of his sprint on Twitter and said New PR and 100m high school record all conditions, 9.98. Other social media users immediately dubbed him White Lightning.
Bolings mark was the fastest time by an American under 20 years old, according to Yahoo Australia. However, the mark wouldnt be considered a national record because he received a 4.2 mph tailwind. Boling was already setting fast marks in March, according to KHOU-TV. He ran 10.22 seconds in a 100-meter dash and 20.58 seconds in a 200-meter dash.

Makes me think of Roger Carr.
Wow his stride is terrific.
My (white) brother ran 9.6 100 (yards) in high school around 1958.
Texas tends to produce fast white guys...Bobby Morrow, Jeremy Wariner, etc. And this kid has already beat their all time personal 100m bests while still in high school! Phenomenal!
Florida tends to produce fast Black guys. Bob Hayes, Bob Paramore.
By my calculations, which could be wrong, that equates to a 9.12, 100 yard dash with the tailwind. Pretty quick.
A metre is about 9% longer than a yard, which would be a 10.5 second time, which is still very good.
I am more of a mid distance. It would take me about 14 seconds to run 100m. However, I have done a half marathon in 1:10.
From observation, blacks tend to unequivocally excel in singular events, but whites tend to be able to do multiple events, even if slightly slower in each event.
Track and field events were just switching to metric when I was in high school. I was pretty fast for a white dude and would have been pretty much a star performer at most other schools in the area, but I got absolutely dusted by four black guys on our team, two were twin brothers. We won the state high school championship my senior year. I’d like to say I played a role, but honestly didn’t lol. Still got the state champion patch for my letter jacket just the same.
Somebody should let spike lee know
There is one event in which the transfer was so close that they still recognize old non metric records. 110 meter high hurdles and 120 yard HH.
Not sure but I think the height of the hurdles, (42 inches) and distance between hurdles, (10 yards) are still the same.
What about Willie Mays Hayes.....Hit like Mays, Run Like Hayes...
"You may run like Hayes, but you hit like s___!"
Because he is a white guy, I’m betting that the “4.2 mph tailwind” was conveniently discovered after the race.
Everyone ran with that tail wind. Plus we dont know if that is even true.
Grease me up woman!
He actually got a bad start to boot!
