I have used the data to find a restaurant I went to and liked and to remember when I went somewhere.
I might need to leave my phone home if I decide to knock over a bank though.

Turn off the option that allows Google to track your web and app activity. Sure it does. LOL.
Don't be surprised when you read an article 5 years from now reporting Google actually kept your data for 'statistical purposes'.

Google has to know where you are.Agreed. Google does not have to store that information, or use it against you. Also, opting out once should suffice– a sort of 'do not call list' across all of Google's business lines.
This ridiculous permissions hide and seek across all websites these days is because they're all afraid of Google.
