They're cute, they're fluffy, and they're public enemy number one in Australia.
Australia is at war -- with feral cats. By 2020, the government wants to kill two million free roaming cats, a large chunk of the total feral cat population, which is estimated to be between 2 and 6 million.
Some areas of Australia have gone even further. In the northeastern state of Queensland, there's even a council offering a $10 ($7) bounty per feral cat scalp.

They kill on average two native birds a day. Catching, neutering and releasing means they'll keep killing said native birds.
Once again my fellow Freepers, who are ready to battle the deep state and defend freedom when called, are attacking cats because they are scared they will bite their finger. Your pathetic callousness to culling cat populations is sickening.
I have fed stray cats for decades and I have had a gun pulled on me, two knifes, a few fights and hundreds of arguments. However, the personal satisfaction and rewards of caring for stray cats is enormous. Maybe instead of wanting to kill cats everytime a fake news article promotes the destruction of life, my Freeper friends would try feeding one instead.
Our cat dragged home a really big rat about 18 months ago.
He left the carcass on the back porch by the door. Cat is 11 pounds and the rat was about 4 pounds.
It’s amazing what a cat will tackle. A dozen years back the cat we had then, caught a pheasant and carried it home. I spotted him climbing over the chain link fence in the back yard carrying the still live bird. My wife gave him a bowl of tuna and we dined on pheasant.
I thought feral rabbits were their biggest threat?
I like both cats and dogs as pets.
We have coyotes in our area so we don’t have cats any more.
I never see strays either.
Have seen strays when traveling and they
looked pretty dirty but did not scare me.
I like that cats keep the rat pop down.

Most cats would beg to differ. Ask anyone owned by a cat. ;)
So don’t “mess” with them.
You can put out food for them and they can become tamed. Not quite like indoor house cats, but they can get friendly.
Maybe it’s the areas we live in that
makes the difference.
My cats were very low on the food chain too.
They don’t hurt anybody.

Modern cars/trucks have the same problem. I was a victim of same.
I have two cats who have heart disease and must be medicated. One of them is now on 3x/day pills.
Normally, two of us medicate the cats—one to hold feet, the other to administer pill/liquid.
My husband and son had to leave for a week. I figured out a way to wrap a towel around the cats and immobilize them to administer the drugs. Neither of them liked it at first, but after a couple of days, the girl took to purring ferociously as soon as I would set her on the towel to start wrapping her. She purred the whole time I was shoving pills and liquid down her throat. Maybe she was purring because of the treat she knew she would get... maybe it was because the towel felt like a big hug. I don’t know. But she does not mind being drugged, even though she has to be restrained.
