Former police Chief Jane Castor was elected mayor of Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday, becoming the first out lesbian mayor of a major city in the state.

I was just speaking in general terms. Even in conservative areas, the apathy in local politics is appalling. Leftists are expert at motivating their radical base, and the low hanging fruit of local, obscure elections is theirs.

We tend to know who our U.S. Representative and Senators are, but have no idea who represents our city council district, school board chair, or state education boards. The left has this down, and dominates.

This is one more example of the fact that local politics is ripe for the picking for the left, having very low participation by the overwhelming conservative population in the area. All they have to do is energize their base. Shame on us.

The problem is, who even wants the job in the first place. Can't vote for someone who doesn't want the job.

Oh, we've had conservative city council candidates in my area. But the left overwhelms them in a poorly attended election. Most people I talk to don't even know a local election is going on.
