Can I ask a stupid question?
Are Uber drivers mostly native born Americans, ordinary citizens, students, others working for cash in their spare time?
I’ve noticed in many cities, cab drivers are almost exclusively people who were not born in this country. I wondered if Uber drivers come from a different group of people.
I also wonder how it is, that driving a cab evolved into something that “Americans won’t do”, to paraphrase people such as W who said immigrants do jobs Americans aren’t doing.
Some years ago most of the rideshare drivers I had were native born American english speakers. Most rideshare drivers from my limited experience seem to now be former taxi drivers and non native english speakers.
Before I became an Uber driver, I knew a Filipino who did it in Atlanta. He quit when he went back to the Philippines; in all of Southeast Asia, Uber has been replaced by a Singapore-based service called Grab.
Yeah..Wasn't born in USA ,...became a citizen 25 years ago....now am 77 years and driving for UBER last 3 ...no problems.
I think every Uber I’ve been on had a foreign driver. It’s no different from the cab drivers, except the car is nicer.
In answer to your question in my experience at least half of Uber drivers are former cab drivers. (Source: am a cab driver)
All the uber drivers I have encountered are normal looking, American looking.
Seems so. At least in Redmond Washington before I escaped. Got tired of living in Mumbai.
