I’m good with a little device attached to MacBooks that sends a shock to the user’s wrists every time they see a liberal meme. Seems a whole lot easier.

You’re the only one talking about Ron Paul and libertarians. You’re a statist, that doesn’t make everybody who disagrees with you a Paulist.

You’re a libertarian lunatic, who doesn’t have a clue how to deal with communists other than wait for a fairy godmother.

Keeping the government away from control of the free exchange of information is a conservative idea. Conservatives have great ideas, you should talk to some.

There are no structural barriers to entry into the social media business, such as existed in markets like mining or railroads or utilities.

Remember MySpace? There will always be another social media platform in the wings, unless the statists get their way and allow the government to gain control of the levers.

Have a nice night.

Maybe so about farce-book— though that little psychopath —what’s his name— is a menace.

But the real menace is Google. They have shown that they can shape public opinion at whim.

There’s no free enterprise when a business dominates several markets and services and collaborates with the elements of the government to advance it’s interests, suppresses free access to information, and free speech.

Bust them up

Why did we oppose Obama’s internet utility push? Was Obama correct all along?

Chase, PayPal and other financials who ban conservatives need to be crushed by a DOJ RICO attack.

I have advocated for over a decade the creation of an online resource run as part of the post office that would be functionally similar to Facebook, but without the adds.

It might have nominal fees for somethings, but it would be cheaper than delivering things like jury summonses to houses.

Don’t step in and regulate them, just put up a bare bones free one good enough for most people.

That is exactly my point. That was the context of my thinking.

Thanks for the input.

Right. We don’t want to be repeating themes. Even if we all understand what is politically impossible people still want to hear something new and reasonable. This is a big issue and, from the comments, I don’t see that others really see the threat.

How many see the threat of bank accounts, 401k’s, IRA’s, and leftists running financial institutions, linked to social media companies, that will politically discriminate against “wrong thought”...suddenly you have no access to financial transactions. Then nobody wants to do business with you.

This is 1940’s behavior, in a particular area of Europe. The practice will become broad if we don’t recognize the danger.

Yep. Some don’t see what is going on.

“Constitutional issue?“

No, an antitrust and privacy issue. One way or another, Facebooks’s time is short.

an online resource run as part of the post office

It makes sense, and it would be easy. The USPS already offers accounts to track things, so all they'd have to do is expand the current system -- and not by a lot. Provide an account for every U.S. citizen as an electronic address attached to your SS#.

Where I would draw the line is in requiring citizens to sign up. Now you're getting in some spooky territory.

I totally agree.

These monopolies are now actively censoring conservative speech. Millenials get all of their info about the world from social media. If we are prevented from reaching them then they WILL vote for socialists when they become the majority and the country WILL be lost.

This and stopping illegal immigration are the two MUST DO’S on Trump’s agenda.

There’s no role for government in controlling content on social media. There are lags, but eventually the market will address the issue.

OK, but what will we do when “the market” decides we have no right to freedom of speech in the marketplace known as the internet?

What do we do when “the market” decides we are too conservative and they close our Paypals and our bank accounts?

Going Gault is not an option for a free society.

The Thought Police are here. It’s not the State, but it’s close enough. It’s the Zuckerbergs and Bezos’s of this world.

Absolutely agree. They are behaving as a publisher, ( choosing who and what to publish) but want to be treated as a utility ( no responsibility for what digital content goes over their platform). They cant have it both ways. They have a complete monopoly on content on those few social media platforms right now.

Those people saying conservatives just need to start an alternative to FB and let the free market solve it, I say ok, are you doing that? I seriously doubt it. Good luck with that!

They’re monopolies. Even if you create an alternative, which there are, you need to achieve a critical mass of users before people will consider switching. It’s similar to creating a new Operating System, you won’t get users unless there’s applications and the app developers won’t write apps for it unless there’s users.

At this point FB has no viable peer.
