I saw Terry Kath with Chicago in 1970 right after they recorded their first album but before it took off. They were unknown at the time.
Blew me away.
I never saw Zappa live. I wish I had.

I regularly find myself watching the Chicago Tanglewood Concert from 1970, Terry was a force of nature.

I saw FZ at least 3 times in Atlanta during the 70s a great guitar player. It seemed that he would find a person somewhere who was dummer than a stump and then make fun and ridicule that person for the amusement of the audience. So this was a drive in restaurant in LA. The enema bandit. The penguin in bondage boing ba boing. Frank seemed to have an attitude of contempt for every day life, life that everyone had to bother with. And by showing contempt, it made every one feel a little bit better by realizing that there were people who were also less than perfectly spectacular.

Terry Kath. My all time favorite guitarist.

I was at my home on Long Island where I grew up and about 17. I was on the side of the road in front of our house when down the street comes this white convertible, top down. Suddenly, letting go of the wheel and with both hands wildly waving (I guess you could call them jazz hands so you know what I mean) madly and leaning out the window was Frank Zappa. Even then I recognized him with his long hair, and that signature goatee and mustache.
