My theory is that years from now, some of those bands that were obscure when they were around, will become more famous than bands that were more popular at the time.
Like Van Gogh, how many paintings did he sell when he was alive?
Hackett's solo stuff is pretty good, too.
Gentle Giant...their two best albums in my opinion were In A Glass House and The Power And The Glory.
God I love threads like this...we need a weekly Prog Rock thread!
An awesome XTC song from “Black Sea”

“And I would have made this instrumental/but the words got in the way”
Andy can write ‘em.
My cousin and I went to see the band at a club on the Main Line of Philadelphia in late ‘73. I think my jaw stayed dropped for a couple of hours.
There was also that obscure album by Van Morrison: Astral Weeks.
Not to mention St Dominics Preview.

A couple of friends and I were going to see them in Memphis in 73 or 74. I had to back out for some reason or another at the last minute.
My friend said when they first came on stage McLaughlin was in lotus position praying on stage and the audience started yelling...”stop praying and start playin’”...lol
I wish I read who posted that link before I wasted my bandwidth, neurons, rods and stems, and a couple of breaths.
But I probably would have taken the click bait anyway.
Dammit
You are right on about this. But let me add, Stephen Stills handed the piece of paper, with the lyrics on it, to his producer and said, heres a song, for what its worth.
That makes sense. Always was curious about the name.
Response to music is visceral; the intellectual approach to music means not actually being a music fan, afaic. My favorite listening music (dead time in traffic, long trips, and for that matter, in the office) is instrumental.
Some examples, in no particular order:
So, how about one about the Prague Spring?
Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger And The Trinity-Czechoslovakia (1969) HD
Van Gogh would have sold more paintings, but he kept missing the doorbell.
Yeah, I think she's an autistic savant. She was playing at Keith's house, on one of his keyboards, back when he was alive.
Rachel arrived 15 weeks premature and her birth weight was one pound five ounces.
If there ever was a Poster Child for the Pro-Life Movement, it’s Rachel.
She's not a favorite, but this one has been for quite a while.
