Maybe someone with a handicapped and tagged family member who can never find a spot because too many ablebodied tagless expletives-deleted are illegally parking in handicap spots?
Just a thought.
Happy Easter.
It’s a nice thought, but in this case precisely the opposite happened. The “volunteer” wrote a crippled man a ticket for not having the tag.
So? We’ve needed to get tags for family members. It’s not hard. In NYS, the tag goes with the person, though you can get plates, too.
If people, even the handicapped, don’t follow the rules, the system put in place to aid the handicapped won’t work.
Even the handicapped have to follow the rules.
If you ar3e fighting like that, verbally or physically, then no, you are NOT a very respectful person.
There is little reason to NOT have a handicapped notice SOMEWHERE on the car.
If they had a hanging tag they forgot, then they could take it, with the ticket, to court and had it cleared.
But then again, that requires thinking and not emoting and reacting out of that.
Thank you for being a voice of reason.
It should not be a breath of fresh air on FR.
You seem to be representative of so much whats missing in society today, a general lack of shame and self respect.

I am a ‘semi retired’ Independent Contractor doing courier & delivery work - mostly for one company on a very ‘limited’ basis.
I had told the dispatcher I wasn’t going to do a job because there wasn’t any parking and the last time I had to walk about 2 blocks etc.
She said ‘Just go get a handicap sticker’ and you won’t have that problem anymore’.
Now I am sure I can go into most any Doctors office, sit down for 10 minutes and when he watches me get up he will surely give me a legal sticker or at least a ‘note’ so I can get one.
I definitely REFUSE to do so, not because of any moral or prideful reason, because I realize what MY reaction would be if a ‘handicapped’ person was delivering boxes to a business....
Of course in today’s world I would NOT or do NOT approach a person engaged in such activities...one because HE/SHE may be armed and - better yet - because I AM ARMED <: <: <:
Oh yes, I am pushing 80 so getting the sticker would be no problem, but like the one FReeper mentioned..70 is yesterdays 50, and I do ‘things’ so I just don’t waste away....
Yea, we should have enforcement people make up new rules as they go. Good idea.
Seems to me that the rules are there for the well-being of the handicapped, not the other way around.
And a volunteer of all people not able to make that judgment correctly speaks to different motives.
The type who went through elementary school reminding the teacher five minutes before the Friday afternoon bell rang that she forgot to give the class their homework assignment for the weekend.
The ticket can be erased at the precinct when the handicapped person shows up there. I have had two erased due to having arrived somewhere without my placard handy but parked in the Handi spot anyway. The same person wrote both and not more than two weeks apart. I bit the bullet and got handi tags for both vehicles.
Either the rules apply to everyone or they don’t.
FWIW, I’d’ve written the ticket and told the handicapped gentleman to get a tag. If he needed help with that, I’d’ve told him how to get it.
If the judge throws out the ticket I wrote, I’d be cool with that, especially if the gent got himself a tag.
I dare say a double amputee has more than enough justification to regard a man who would write him a handicapped parking ticket to be the kind of complete slimeball that should be shunned by decent society.
Very well. Sounds real fair; just even.
Be sure to point this maxim out to a highway patrolman next time he cuts you a break for doing 70 in a 65 zone.
If the HP has not yet written the ticket, he/she has the authority to issue or not, and a warning ticket might be in order for endangering other drivers.
My girlfriend gets the same looks when she takes her mother shopping and does the driving in the mother’s handicapped tagged car.
My point is that unless that's the case there is room for a little consideration (judgment being too strong a word) of the circumstances -- especially of obvious factors -- which can be done without compromising either responsibility or the intent of the regulation. I understand this can be abused but that's no reason to preclude thinking before acting (I'd say "using common sense" but this concept is an anachronism in today's society as it is clearly no longer routinely applied in our "modern society".)
Ahh the heck with this. Today is a time of joyous celebration and I wish everyone here a most glorious Easter! Truly I do.
We have 2 placards. One for Hubby’s car and one for mine. They cost nothing and are easy to get. Fill out the form, have the doc sign it and send it in. Never have to reapply. The state sends a new one before the old one expires.
There’s absolutely no reason not to have one if you qualify.
