"Since a MX national was enslaved and held captive (at least one), why isn’t this a federal crime? Why only state prosecution? Or am I missing something? Obviously since Ranier was caught in MX, and there is a big NX group in MX, shouldn’t feds be involved?"

The case is being prosecuted in Federal Court, by US Attorneys appointed by Trump.

Although victims were complaining to the authorities as far back as the late 90s, the State authorities couldn't find time to investigate, much less prosecute. That would be such luminaries as Elliott Spitzer and Eric Schneiderman.

As the seat of NY government, Albany politicians had no interest in looking into Raniere's activities. Why?

Bought and paid for.

The recently elected NY State Attorney General says the only thing her office will focus on is investigating Trump and his NY history.

The judge in the NXIVM case, Garaufis, was appointed by Bill Clinton.

Sorry, I can’t keep all the facts in my teensy skulll...

You said:

And:

“The judge in the NXIVM case, Garaufis, was appointed by Bill Clinton.”

So the attorneys are appointed by Trump but the judge is a Klintoon dude. So probably a bad one. I did read what the newly elected B.O.D. AG said. What a vicious piece of dung.
