My dad was with the Third Army under Patton...He said he was the meanest son-of-a-bitch in the Army...
My dad loved General Patton....
Good soldiers always love commanders who are fire-breathing sons of bitches; they tend to get their soldiers home alive. I had the pleasure of working for a few of those, but GEN Wayne Downing was among the very best. He went from 2LT to General (four stars) almost entirely within the Special Ops community - Ranger platoon leader to Commander of SOCOM. Not a big guy, but one seriously intense SOB.
Why do I mention Gen. Downing? He was one of four adults in the US to die of bacterial meningitis in 2007 and there were a lot of flag officers who hated his guts.
Sometimes our best leaders Divinely are sent in forms that appear deeply flawed by our skewed standards.
Our perceptual filters have been warped by the Fake Media and childhood public indoctrination
Hence, General Patton and President Trump.
Yep, same with my family. They loved serving under him.
“My dad was with the Third Army under Patton”
So was mine. I think he had the same view of Patton as yours.

My grandfather served under and even encountered Patton one time and said the exact same thing as your father. Eisenhower’s biggest mistake was firing Patton. Patton on his deathbed even told his wife that he did not want Eisenhower or that son-of-a-bitch General “Beadle” Smith at his funeral.
Patton (and MacArthur) had the fewest battle casualties. Both generals were very stingy with their solders lives.
I had an uncle in 3rd Army and he liked Patton. He was an AA gunner. I had another uncle who was a combat engineer at Omaha Beach and he hated Patton for sending troops out into an area that was to be heavily bombed by the 8th Air Force before the breakout at St.Lo. Blamed him for getting a bunch of GI’s killed when he didn’t have to.
